Hi all,

The nut holding the clamp on the exhaust header pipes/CAT joint seems to be rusted solid, anyone give me some advice on freeing it up?

WD40 and overnight may help. If no joy take the bike for a ride and then try (it'll be nice and warm).

Careful as it'll be nice and warm.

Tried the WD40 and no joy with that... I did consider taking the bike out, but I'd have to refit the starter, battery, fuel tank, and instrument console and I couldn't be arsed! I'll get a dremel on it for now and order the new clamp in the morning, by the time I get to replacing the clutch and crank shaft seal, the clamp will have arrived and I'll be good to go.

Cheers

Is it the one between the Cat and the actual silencer ?

If so keep up the WD40 and then try a breaker bar. Mine was well rusted, only rusty bolt on the entire bike, but I got it off quite nicely with a bit of patience.

You might find you also have to give the clamp a whack with a hammer to break it free once you have the nut off. :thumb2

I only took the grinder to the bolt, the clamp is back on the bike with a new bolt in it :thumb2

1 minute with an angle grinder and a quick smack with a hammer sorted it out :D Next is the nut that bolts the silencer to the exhaust stud on the passenger footrest... it's nice and clean this time but I just can't find enough room to get good leverage... going to need a bigger bar :augie

That is the easy one, you can even get penetrating oil on the end of the thread, I tend to use a drop of diesel and let it soak in.

Sorted, borrowed a 13mm socket from a mate, one swift tug with a decent sized ratchet and it was off. Exhaust unit popped off with only a little help from a hammer.

One thing I noticed with my cat box... it doesn't have the mount points that bolt to the back of the centre stand... not that they weren't bolted, but that the actual mount points don't exist. The exhaust unit is only held on by the clamp at the header end and the single exhaust stud at the other. Has anyone else seen this?

Mines the same, those rubbers are not needed according to wisdom.

Excellent :D

Rear frame and gear box off tomorrow and I can finaly get the crank shaft seals done.
