Bike is now exactly 1 week old, 430 miles. Having a ball riding it round the Cotswolds. Ridden a total of four times, washed three times. And I've found RUST on the telelever arm all around where the bracket for the shock is attached. Anyone else had this.

Yup, mine did exactly the same and so has all my mates. 33k and two and half years later its still the same. Take it back to the dealer (like I should have done) and get it repainted properly under warranty. Infact, cos the gits have been so petty about the use of the logo on this site, take it back for anything you can think of....make em pay :p

If it's 1 week old you don't want it repainted.... you want a new one.

I seem to remember there was a whole rash of this several months ago (last Spring?). I don't think there was a quibble, and the parts were repaired/replaced. Perhaps there's another duff batch. Not a blemish showing on mine after 1yr & 20k miles....

If this is a long standing problem, though, I think I'd sooner have mine shot-blasted & painted, rather than replaced. That way you stand the chance of getting a decent solution to the problem, rather than repeating it.

RUST!!!! On a 1 week old bike!!! Hell!

You want a new one. But of course you know that the new one will go rusty just as quickly.
You should write to BMW and tell them that you are not happy with the painted finish on your bike AND it is not an isolated case. ( 'coz that's what they'll try) How would they feel if your dealer had it PROFESSIONALY repainted at their expense.

Of course my Tiger hasn't got any rust on it at 5500 miles. And, yes, it's been out in the salt more than once.
Hush my mouth! ;) :)
I do use Motorex 645 Protect & Shine. Recommended by Triumph AND L&C BMW use it on their demonstrators all year. They tell me they've never had any corrosion problems like we've seen on this forum. Try some.
