Personally I think Medi is incredibly ungrateful for the sponsorship he received from someone who is trying to establish a business. In fact if that's how he thanks people who do him a good turn, he better NOT ask me for anything

In future he should not be surprised to be told to "P'ss Off" the next time he goes begging.

As Bakerman would say "What a TOSSER"

Crumpy, the rest of us educated people, are greatful for any support that you give.

Although I dont get charged by CW for removing my H&B bars when they service my bike, probely because they dont take them of, not even sure if they loosen the mounting bolts? I check? but hey everyone to there own.

Semantics

You can call it any number of things you like but it's all housed between the cylinder head and the rocker cover and was just a simple description that most people seemed to understand.

Find me a better technician and i'd be happy to talk to them about a job!

Thanks

Thanks Jenks

(I must say i never thought this would lead to so many replies!)

Crampie:)

Nor me!!! Just like to point out to the peple who replied that I have posted on this PUBLIC thread an apology to Crampie to in some way make ammends to Rydale not just gone around to see him, which I will do. I would also like to point out that I did not have an issue with the charges for the removal of the bars or fitting of the tyre. P.S. Jenks we did not go around cap in hand we paid fully for the trip ourselves. We approached Rydale to see if we could help raise their profile, as myself and the rest of my friends who use them are pleased with their service and welcome. It was Crampie who personally offered some help. I would not discourage anyone going to Rydales.
I hope this can now put the matter to rest.

Crampie,
No, you cannot call it anything that you like. A camshaft is a camshaft and NOT a valve carrier. Or is perhaps a tomato a bannana because they are both edible.
Let's have it right shall we and whilst we're at it, Mechanic is the correct term I believe, you know the ones that went ot college and have indentures.

Mechanic may be the correct term for someone who services motorcycles. However, just like my employer, Rydale use the term technician as it is a vague title that an all inclusive job description can be tailored to. This allows the employer to shift people into other roles as business needs dictate.

Technician/Mechanic

The following is taken from Cambridge Advanced Learners Dictionary, just for your information.......................................

TECHNICIAN
a worker trained with special skills especially in science or engineering..........

MECHANIC
someone whose job is repairing the engines of vehicles and other machines.................................

So it doesn't really matter what you call it.....................

Oh and i also found this...............................................................

ANORAK (person) noun UK disapproving
a boring person who is too interested in unimportant details and finds it difficult to meet and spend time with other people...........

One more thing...........
Thanks to Medicbike who visted us this morning to offer an apology (accepted) and a handshake.

Hmmmm......willl this be the last word?

Behave you lot of girls

Right, as one who has actually got his hands dirty on his bike, can I just clear this up for one or two of you.
What the hell is a valve carrier. I always call that bit a cylinder head, have I missed something??
The camshaft IS in the rocker cover area, you just have to look real hard to see it, but trust me, it's there. If you can see the cam chain sprocket (assuming you know what that is) well supprise supprise, thats bolted on to the end of the camshaft.
As for the technician/ mechanic thing, who really gives a toss, I guess a motor technician sounds a whole lot better when you're talking to your bank manager, and a mechanic is better when you're down the pub.
Finally, if you don't like the service you get, do it yourself, or go somewhere else, and make sure you know EXACTLY what you're paying for.
Sorted
PS My camshafts are located under my bench in the garage, does this effect how my bike will run:confused:

Vern,
May I refer you to the workshop manual? Page 70
The other chirlish response I won't rise to.

That'll be the Valve "gear" carrier... a slight difference.

Now the difference between a technician and a mechanic is established-what's a fitter in the grand scheme of things?!!!

Fitters fit things.
I haven't looked at page 70 of the manual, but valve gear carrier sounds about right to me. So where's this magical valve carrier and camshaft on yours then, next to the air conditioner pump no doubt:D
