Thats the third time I have brought a bike from a dealership and then its closed down....

As I understand Chris Pidcock is a top bloke.

If my recent experiences of Piddy's BMW are an indication of how they've been running things in Chris' absence I'm not surprised Honda have agreed it's time to 'part company'.

i popped into a honda dealer today, the service was rubbish, worse than any Motorrad dealer ive ever been to. the sales manager was trying to tell me there isnt any money in adventure bikes lol, thats why theyve done away with bikes like the africa twin and now the transalp. hmmmmm

That's not particularly good news. I used to live in Long Eaton, I used the BMW place, I visited the Triumph place, I never bothered to go to the Honda (new Triumph place) because it's off the beaten track up a side road on an industrial estate.

You have to know it's there and be bothered enough to visit. The others you can see on approach and think "I'll pop in", this one you won't know it's there.

They will still service Honda bikes and the main mechanic there is a top bloke

Oops, that's me corrected. I am generally out of date. The Bike shop always seemed more pleasant when I went in, than Pidcocks BMW. I always felt ashamed to go to Pidcocks as I didn't have a 'new' bike. I just wanted them to service my old rattler.

To be fair, the last thing they did on it was really kind and didn't charge me for it.

Tis sad news, Chris having the big C has taken its toll on his business, he is a very nice chap but I always thought moving honda from a prime rd position on mapperley top notts to a ind estate off the beaten track would not do him favours.

Such a shame.

Yeah, but we've got 'Mower World' now (I live opposite).

Sad news though about Chris, Pidcocks (as a family run business) have been a big part of the bike scene up here for what seems like forever.

The problem with Honda is that they're pushing a solus dealer policy without building bikes which will draw punters through the door

The VFR1200 arrived years too late, by which time the VFR owners wanting to upgrade had already gone out and bought K1200S's (including myself and loads of guys I know on the VFR Club forum). Don't really understand why Blackbird owners didn't go for it though unless they were expecting more go

The Pan and VFR800 are both 10 years old, the CBR's are no different from every other UJM.

When there bikes were sold alongside the other Japanese bikes, you bought them because they looked much better built than the Suzuki/Yamaha/Kawasaki alternative. Dealers around here just dumped Honda when they were given the ultimatum by them and replaced them with other brands e.g. Colin Appleyards in Keighley replaced Honda with Kawasaki and continued to sell Suzuki's and Yamaha's.

I walked around Bridge Honda in Exeter yesterday and there wasn't a single new bike in the showroom I would want to own.

Can fully understand why they'd drop Honda over bmw and triumph. Honda track record over the last 10 yrs has been very misguided. Somehow they've missed the mark repeatedly with their new models. The Vtec just wasn't right compared to its predecessor, as wasn't the ST13. And the pig ugly vfr12 is just not a replacement for the Bird. The varadero is a joke in the GS market place, as is the Transalp.
I thought their new 47hp bikes looked great, but why are they only available at 47hp, don't they realise that not only do leaners get to move on, but non restricted riders might have been more interested if they were available as full powered 60-70 hp which they should be more than capable of these days.
Both BMW and triumph have just about the most up to date ranges of bikes than any other maker. And with Yamaha beating Honda in the sales race, their rapidly heading for fourth place, especially in the dealer desirability stakes.
Even though I have Hondas,if I was a business man I'd rather be selling BMW and/or triumph these days.

It's the only Honda that would, Trev - I shall have a go soon

Been riding this today, HRC factory built motor and when Honda set their mind to something, they can build awesome bikes

It rode beautifully today, such a nice bike to own
