The whole thing was working perfectly...THEN !!!!!!!

I was advised (automatic updates) to download the latest Samsung updates. One of these updates was a LAN update (driver?)

I did this, and suddenly my internet connection died. I have tried 'System restore' but it won't allow me to restore to any of the restore points. (XP) and I can't find this specific update in Add/Remove programmes

Network connections (LAN or high speed internet), shows two LAN connections, both showing 'unplugged' and can't see anything to do with my BT connection which is working fine on this desktop.

I have a feeling that the Samsung LAN update thing has screwed up these settings, and that a box is ticked/un ticked within the depths of these two LAN connections.

I have now reached the point where I am out of my depth, and would be very grateful for any advice.

Thank you......:)

Just looking at this again, It's not even searching for 'available connections'...It's as if it's Wi-Fi has been disabled somehow...:nenau

Sounds like it's been switched off, I'm assuming Kritou is telling you how to switch it back on.

Sounds like good advice to me..

Holding the Function Key 'Fn' and F9 toggles the wireless on/off.

There's a whole host of other shortcuts, volume up/down, brightness etc. along the function number keys, very handy.

Maybe the cat stepped on Fn + F9?

Thanks for the 'support' gents....:D

Yes (unlikely as it sounds) I did think of ALL that, but it sadly wasn't to be.

Decide to run the Samsung restore utility....took it back o the day I bought it...bit of a ball ache reinstaling stuff, but also got rid of a load of shite...:thumb....Now it's done, I'm sort of happy I got rid of it all....;)

Anyway, back up and running....Thank you for the replies.....:thumb2 :)

Ah, what the hell do us cabbages know anyway :D

Glad you're sorted.

Dunno if this is too late, but I had the same problem ... I had to use a restore point to get me back to last good configuration ... The problem is I don;t know which update caused the problem, and it makes me reluctant to d/l anymore updates for fear of the same problem ...:(

just as a point of note, if the machine goes into hibernate whilst the wifi/3g connection is running when you restart it often stops working, you have to do a full reboot and it will come back to life again.

I'm pretty sure that it was the Samsung software update, that came down just before I started this thread. It wasn't a 'Windows' update.

I updated, and my internet connection died there and then. 'Windows System Restore' wouldn't update to any of the dates that I set, and I had to go into Samsung's own restore, and reset the whole thing. Works perfectly now.

HTH....:)
