Anyone out there do sandblasting?

Got myself an Aeroflow windscreen and the frames are a bit tatty/rusty. Going to fit the screen later this evening if I can and if I like it, I'll get the frames cleaned down and paint with hammerite or such.

So any of the members here do a bit of blasting?

There was a thread recently about powder coating, some body in north Co. Dublin was doing it very reasonably. And no faffing about with paint!

Found it.

That was who I got to do my Powder coating but he doesn't do the sand blasting.
I got that done by a guy in Scribblestown lane in Finglas. His name is Tony O' Donnell (I think). I have his business card in work so will post his number up tomorrow.

Sand blasting

If your anywhere near Howth, As you drive down the north pier take the first turn on the left into the old boat yard and there's a guy just there he's very good, cheap and wile he's doing the job you can walk down the pier and get some fresh fish at a bargain price.
I had a fire place done in March 60 euro couldn't believe it, and he had some bike parts there he was doing so worth a trip.
On the other hand if your any where near Leixlip Co Kildare I just bought a sand blasting kit to do some work on the bike myself I haven't tried it yet but as I said if your round I'll make the tea and you can try the blaster.

I have the cheapo spot blaster from ALDI. remove the front portion with the recovery bag, buy a large (31 L, I think) plastic box in B&Q, cut a couple of holes, and you have a blast cabinet.
I already had the compressor, again from LIDL or Aldi. I did find the grit getting blocked in the blaster a bit, but fitting the water trap and putting the grit through a kitchen sieve every time I recycled it, solved that.

All a bit slow and fiddly (could solve a lot of that if I put my mind to it) but the two fork sliders cleaned up well and are now sprayed:D

Just wait for the seals and such to rebuild the fork legs and back on the road:thumb2

you could also try soda blasting if on painted parts or alloy

as i sell soda pots , do a bit of research ,if only small items better to ship the job out

I think the frames are in steel with some sort of plastic like paint. Where the paint is coming away the metal is rusting.

Thanks again for all the info lads....

Stop it rusting again before painting

If you do sandblast, immediately afterwards, spray with WD40.
As long as it is not left out in the rain, it can sit in a shed for months without rusting again.
There is no silicone in WD40, so it does not affect the future paint job.
