Sandwood Bay

Has anyone tried riding to Sandwood Bay? I fancy going for a spot of wild camping.

Also does anyone know if you can take a bike over to Cape Wrath?

You probably could ride a bike to Sandwood Bay-its a rough path but probably doable--but I dont think you should--walk there same as every body else to appreciate a truly wild place.
The only way to Cape Wrath is via a wee ferry that runs from the Cape Wrath Hotel as was, and onto a minibus that runs out to the Cape.
Both worth visiting.

If you're heading up there and want somewhere to camp can I suggest Sheigra beach. It's at the end of the road that you ride to get to the Sandwood Bay track and is basically wild camping at the edge of a beautiful beach. There is an honesty box which you can pay £4 into if you want (I did, small price to pay for a stunning venue). I got a stunning sunset, saw an otter and had the place to myself when I was there at the end of April.

I've heard rumours that there is a wrecked spitfire (plane) on Sandwood, anyone know if there is any truth in this?

You may get some ideas on this thread. I rode down to Slaggan Bay (in Gordon's post) and it would be an excellent doss (not to mention that the track's quite interesting in it's own right).

Haven't seen a Spitfire up there - the killer whale carcass might still be there though. Head North up into Cape Wrath if the RAF are bombing the little island - makes for a great airshow!!
