Sandwood Bay

You probably could ride a bike to Sandwood Bay-its a rough path but probably doable--but I dont think you should--walk there same as every body else to appreciate a truly wild place.
The only way to Cape Wrath is via a wee ferry that runs from the Cape Wrath Hotel as was, and onto a minibus that runs out to the Cape.
Both worth visiting.

If you're heading up there and want somewhere to camp can I suggest Sheigra beach. It's at the end of the road that you ride to get to the Sandwood Bay track and is basically wild camping at the edge of a beautiful beach. There is an honesty box which you can pay £4 into if you want (I did, small price to pay for a stunning venue). I got a stunning sunset, saw an otter and had the place to myself when I was there at the end of April.

This is the beach, you can just make out my tent and bike.

The sunset.

Watch out for the ghost in the shell of the old cottage!! If you camp near enough you can hear 'murmurings' all night!!

Jurassic - That spot looks pretty good, will give it a try. Do you know any other good wild camping spots?

I heard the ghost was this old fisherman who appears at the windows of the ruined house:eek:

Another question......

I've heard rumours that there is a wrecked spitfire (plane) on Sandwood, anyone know if there is any truth in this?

Haven't seen a Spitfire up there - the killer whale carcass might still be there though. Head North up into Cape Wrath if the RAF are bombing the little island - makes for a great airshow!!
