Does anyone else use the Sanef electronic tags? What a pain this year.
In the past I've just ridden up to the booth, handed over the tag to a human being, and paid the reduced price for the bike. Easy.
Last week I went through France and it seems it's all switched to automated booths. Riding up to the first booth, the tag was detected in my tank bag and the barrier went up. Result! Except 20 miles later when I went to exit - nothing. Waving the tag around in the air did no good. Off with the lid, out with the earplugs, and 5 minutes explaining to a little speaker that I had a tag and the barrier wouldn't raise. Next toll, and the tag isn't detected. I take the little printed ticket. A few miles down the road, I go to put the ticket in the slot and the tag is detected and barrier goes up. What? Where does it think I started the journey? Every toll was the stress of "will it work or won't it". I've had to keep all my receipts for the trip as I think the bill next month from Sanef is going to be a total nightmare to work out.
Next year the Sanef tag is staying at home and I'll go back to just taking a ticket like everyone else!
