Does anyone else use the Sanef electronic tags? What a pain this year.

In the past I've just ridden up to the booth, handed over the tag to a human being, and paid the reduced price for the bike. Easy.

Last week I went through France and it seems it's all switched to automated booths. Riding up to the first booth, the tag was detected in my tank bag and the barrier went up. Result! Except 20 miles later when I went to exit - nothing. Waving the tag around in the air did no good. Off with the lid, out with the earplugs, and 5 minutes explaining to a little speaker that I had a tag and the barrier wouldn't raise. Next toll, and the tag isn't detected. I take the little printed ticket. A few miles down the road, I go to put the ticket in the slot and the tag is detected and barrier goes up. What? Where does it think I started the journey? Every toll was the stress of "will it work or won't it". I've had to keep all my receipts for the trip as I think the bill next month from Sanef is going to be a total nightmare to work out.

Next year the Sanef tag is staying at home and I'll go back to just taking a ticket like everyone else!

I have one, but for the car and it worked fine in April, I also feel the lottery of approaching the barrier, especially when solo and sat on the wrong side of the car to the frenchies....

I've used one of these in the car for four trips this year and it's worked fine every trip. What I did find is that not all the lanes are equipped with scanners and that the signage isn't very clear about that. As a result, I always stick to the 2m height restricted lanes on the left which are only T-tag enabled. Can you take the bike through those lanes?

Used in the car and more importantly (given the nature of this thread) on my bike with no problems at all.

Sanefs instructions are for bikes NOT to use the height restricted lane or you will be charged the car rate with no option to correct it subsequently.

Have yet to use mine.....2 weeks to go...:bounce1:bounce1....but I've bought a small aquapac..

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0012BQZ0A?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

which my pillion will wear and waggle it at the scanner...well thats the plan....

Used mine as recent as last week through numerous tolls without any issues.

Interesting experiences last 2 weeks....wifey and I had one in aquapac, which was duly waved at sensors and worked...even in the 30kph lane! Gulp!

Mate and wife had one...never worked at all!!

Had to take tickets and pay.

For me....a totally stress free and easy way to deal with peages.

Worth keeping an eye on your CC statement with these cowboys.

They recently debited my card for €12,640 instead of €126.40!

Enquiries with sanef revealed that it worked the first time they used it...transaction recorded etc...and thereafter nothing. Its been returned for a refund.

Mine worked throughout.

Verdict...bad luck/duff tag.

I used the same tag and it worked perfectly in all the "t" lanes including the 30kph outside lanes. I travelled down to Biarritz from the Tunnel so was on different Autoroutes run by different companies and it worked perfectly.

It will be interesting to see the FX rate used when the DD comes out of my sterling account.

Pansmiker, if you get charged the car rate, drop them a line to correct it. If they are as good as Vinci (who supplies my tag) they should refund quickly.

Often if the tag "isn't working" the issue is the road sensors can't pick up the motorcycle and work out what rate to charge you. Rather than look at the Tag sensor, keep an eye for the embedded sensor in the road, and if you do have to stop, park your engine over it. Seems to work successfully for me. The network seems to be getting upgraded gradually, and the 'errors' I've had are less now than three years ago when I arrived here.

Isn't there a warning that the Sanef tags are NOT for motorcycles in the T30 automatic lane cos you will be charged the car rate. I read that you should go to a manned booth ( if you can find one ) and manually hand the tag to the homme/Madame to get your class 5 rate billed to the tag. I love the tag but it's more expensive (additional monthly charge)and only there for convenience, so the benefits are nonesense if you are on a motorcycle need a manned lane for class 5 rate.

No....any vehicle can use the 30 lane....mine all got charged at proper rate. What you can't do on a bike is use the height restricted lane...well you can but you'll be charged as a car and they won't adjust it.

I never even saw a manned booth, let alone use one.

Tag is so easy its worth it, especially on a bike.

Interesting point above about vehicle sensors...worth bearing in mind.

...but you will also need to remember to duck.

Manned booths are rare, but there is usually someone around if you push the button for help.

Let's just say I've had a few cases where I've had to roll the bike back and forth a few feet to make the sensors notice the bike.

Oh...on that note...if you can't get a ticket out because the machine hasn't spotted you, and you push the button for help - "je voodray une tickay sill voo play" :) - note that the operators will often get a ticket spat out for you *on the higher level machine that the lorries use* and not the lower level car one...
