Santander to Valencia/Moraira in 2 weeks

Need a route, preferably to avoid Madrid

Any advice for a relative touring virgin in Spain

Here you go. I've used these roads a few times (just got back on Tuesday) We did from Bilbao, but this will give you a great ride !
Head East on the A8 to Bilbao then towards Zaragoza on the A68.
Take the N111 at Logrono to Soria.
Then the N234 through Calatyud and down to Teruel
Here you can pick up the N330. There is a new carraigeway (A35 I think) the 330 runs parralel but has NOTHING on it !
At Teruel stay on the N330 to Utiel (south) the N234 to valencia is OK but not a patch on the 330. at Utiel jump on the E901 towards Valencia then south on the A7.
If you fancy a nice bit to finish, get off at Oliva (juntion 61) and use the N332 down to Teulada (Gata de Gorgos is great) Moraira is sign posted at Teulada.

Enjoy

Cheers

I've done the Gorge above Teulada before (in a hire car) and would love to try it on the bike

How many km's and how long should I allow for the journey, Martin?

If you venture into Valencia town centre you could do a lot worse than to call in here for lunch :drool

Head for the fountains in the town centre and you're not far away ;)

Should take you about 7 hrs motoring time. If it were me I would stay on the A7 and exit at Jct 62 Ondarra (Just down the road from me) then up through the gorge to Benissa. The N332 from Oliva down has loads of traffic lights and is always congested with heavy stuff except Sat and Sun of course. If you havnt been this way before be ready for a treat or two, some of the roads inland are a dream.Check out the Val De Ebo from Pego and a run to Guadalest is a must via Parcent,an added treat is the motorcycle museum. Enjoy yer hols and ride safe:thumb

It,s about 500miles (800km) from Bilbao. We stayed at Albarracin (West of Teruel) to break the journey up on one trip.
Really if you want to take your time to enjoy the roads, I would take 2 easy days. If you need to get there asap then maybe stick to the motorway !

For us riding IN Spain is the reason we go, and we love it :thumb2

If you want to have a chat 'PM' me and I'll give you my number

Glyno is bang on,that road to guadalest is made for a GS and that museum is really cool.3 euros to get in and has some nice old beemers, montessa's ossa's and some real old Harleys, highlight of my trip down there in june.Go back to valencia via calpe and you can have some awesome seafood.:Motomartin

I'll either be on this
Or this...........

Excellent. The loony accosting you at the dockside will be me. Did you go for a cabin or a chair by the way? I went for a chair (couldn't justify the luxury of a cabin by myself) and put out a message on here to see if anybody wanted to share a cabin.
