Sat Nav plug...

I bought a socket from Nippys for the Sat Nav plug on my 2010 GSA.

On connecting the sat nav...nothing happened. I put a meter across the wires and i had 12.5v coming out of it.
I tried a main headlamp bulb and a couple of other 12v items. Nothing. The ony thing I could light up was a parking light bulb.

Any ideas?

I would say the canbus system current limiter is kicking in when you try a headlight bulb.
If you can light a parking lamp, then it's working and getting more than enough juice for a satnav.

Can you check the satnav and confirm it's working. Does it run off batteries ?

have you got the right plug on the bike? middle of bike at front,cable tied to subframe.

Yes, Have the right plug, I take it there is only one up there anyway. Will check sat nav is working via a !2v battery........

There's two plugs up there one is a diagnostic plug in and the other for the sat nav

As earlier stated the one you want is in the middle up high and will be cable tied up with a cover over the end

Just be careful when connecting a sat nav to the plug as you get 12volts and TomToms "don't like it up em" in fact they start to smell then go bang.

as the unit is designed for 12V, you appear to be talking out of your arse....

Woah slow down tiger! Which unit are we talking about the TomTom or the other as yet unspecified one. If it is a TomTom they run at 5volt and are stepped down via the charger. However, I believe that Garmins do run a 12 volt input and have a in-built transformer but I'm unsure if this across all the range. So to suggest that I am speaking out of my arse is probably a bit premature especially as you are not armed with all the facts. Indeed it takes a few more posts before people realise I am talking out of my arse.

Not got round to doing some checking out yet!

I have a TomTom Rider 2 and a Garmin 660. (So I cant get lost in Spain...) Im using the Garmin because of the MP3 player though the TomTom is miles better for what it was made for. Had some trouble with it in the past which TomTom did put right, eventually...

Will be checking it all out over weekend...

By way of clarification the TomTom I blew up was one designed for a car which is does run at 5volts.

Ok. did some checking on thr wires coming from the bike over the weekend. There is only 11.5 volts coming out of them......

Bike going into shop for check up on left hand indicator not working tomorrow , so they will have a look..... maybe its the flashers.....

Bike went in yesterday. Indicators all ok...

Satnav socket only 11.5volts so they took the tank off and found that something under there was faulty. Not sure what it is...part of the wiring though. Going back in next week.

The bike went in today to have its satnav wire fixed. They ordered a 'control box', its under the tank. Cost about £350.....Still under warranty so fine by me.
Makes me wonder about the posts about extended warranty though...

Glad you got it sorted ,and too true one payment of £197 and all thats covered

Sounds like my mate may have the same problem with his 2010GSA. Indicators failed on left side but dealer said canbus had no faults and they were working when they checked. At the same time his Zumo stopped working. Checked the output at the plug on the wiring loom and got 11.5v and tried a 2w test bulb which it could hardly light. Dealer checked and got 12v at the sat nav plug and 12.5v at the accessory socket - odd. They tried different leads but can find no fault and are stuck as to what to do next. Could you let me know who your dealer is. It may be a help if my mates dealer can contact yours for a bit of dialogue. We are a bit remote up here in Shetland to be nipping down to the dealer the whole time. Cheers
