Hi
I was hoping to fit a standard Garmin nuvi sat nav on my 2006 1200GSA but have come across a power problem.
The unit I have doesn’t have a dedicated bike mount so I thought I’d use a weatherproof universal case, then regulate the input power from 12 volt down to 5 with an inline regulator. I've tried coming out of the headstock Canbus socket with a ‘Nippys’ GPS lead, through a regulator, then into the sat nav. Only problem is, after I fit the lead and regulator, I've found the power from the Canbus won't turn off with the key.
I'm obviously no electrician so have been wondering; do you guys think it’s possible to fit my standard sat nav and save a few quid, or, will I have to bite the bullet and save up for a dedicated bike one so that I don’t drain my battery whilst I’m out and about?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts
