SatNav Blocks view of rev counter

Stating a physical map is a solution beggars belief if you want to gain credibility that your posts are adding any value to this section.

That's just qualified my thoughts about you

Turn bracket.

I agree with doctor smudge.
I had the Nav 4 fitted to my 2007 Adv, and found that with the screen in the low position I could not see the top of the RPM.
If I rotated it up enough to see the gauge, the reflections in the screen were awful.
I was told what to do; just swop the bracket around 180 degrees.
I don't know why they don't come like that. There must be a good reason, but I guess I will find that out when it all falls apart on me!
Ho hum.
It was just so easy and simple to do, that I just had to do it. I guess I hadn't done any toolboxing for a while, and was restless.

Has anybody found a solution to getting the satnav bracket out of the line of sight of the rev counter? I may try it fitted horizontally or in my pocket!

It is just a nice to do as I'm sure the Alpha Charlie Ben Kanobi's out there deride the need to see the rev counter.

I have purchased the bloody rev counter so I want to see it.

There's a really simple solution, in my opinion anyway!

After a little poke around I found that there was a some slack in the power cable enabling me to shift the the whole mount to the left of the mounting bar leaving me (at 5' 7") with a clear view of the tacho. WHEN I get the sat-nav I shall really know how clever I have been

Mine was not centered when I got it, cannot live with things which are not level, square, central or whatever (anal, yes) so I moved it back to centre. I only miss the very top of the rev counter and it doesn't really bother me. It's not as if you ever 'read' it like your speedo

Has anyone managed to shift the Nav 4 far enough to one side to allow installation of an iPad? Preferably to the left so it doesn't tangle with a handle bar mounted iPhone on the right of the yoke.

Not quite sure which sat nav mount you refer to but I've just got 2010 GSA which had one on for a zumo 550. That too was obscuring the rev counter. If its the same mount as I have if you try and move the mount around too much the locking tab at the back takes chunks out of the screen.

So, like I say if its the same as mine, I unscrewed the four philips screws that hold the mount onto the bracket, turned it round 180 degrees, put the bracket back on the mounting bar "upside down", so the locking tab now sits at the bottom, shuffled the whole thing across until it was over the speedo more and Bob's your Uncle, Fannies your Aunt. Job jobbed.

But you are probably talking about a completely different bracket.

That's what I did on my 2009 GS. Turning the bracket 180 degrees (same as the bracket hown in the photo above) raised the GPS a good inch or so.

Total tripe, you may as well suggest a horse and cart to a pannier question.

Totally agree. GPS is invaluable :thumb2 Of course, you have to know how to use it :augie But I always carry paper maps as well, just in case.

That's one of the few benefits of being 1,70 m. tall and using the low seat:no GPS mount hiding the top of the rev counter :)

Once you come over to the dark side, you'll understand.

Stop having thoughts about me, you must have better things to do.

I've used the sucker mount option inside the screen and angled the iPad so it doubles as a screen extender. It rests on the top edge of the satnav and seems pretty stable, even off road (the odd pothole).

With bluetooth for the sound and my MiFi dongle getting 4G it means I have sound and can realistically get decent definition streamed video.

I'd post pics up but JB and co would have a field day...

I did notice the blocking, but it wasn't really an issue - I could feel where the engine was so didn't ever look for the rev counter. The speedo is clear - which helps cos the Wasserhead is blinking fast!!

On my hexhead 12GS I fitted my Zumo 350 to a Ram ball that screws in one of the handlebar clamp sockets. It sits below the speedo and within easy reach of left hand :thumb

I am the penultimate GPS luddite and love to read maps, but a satnav is utterly indispensible when it comes to finding a particular hotel on a foreign city, or the nearest camp site, or petrol station, or brothel, or cake shoppe, or ...

Out of interest, if you are the penultimate GPS Luddite, who is the ultimate Luddite?

Also, would anyone have a POI file for brothels and cake shoppes, my Nav IV is sorely missing this.
