SatNav Blocks view of rev counter

I've used the sucker mount option inside the screen and angled the iPad so it doubles as a screen extender. It rests on the top edge of the satnav and seems pretty stable, even off road (the odd pothole).

With bluetooth for the sound and my MiFi dongle getting 4G it means I have sound and can realistically get decent definition streamed video.

I'd post pics up but JB and co would have a field day...

I'm not confident enough in the sucker route. I think on a hot day there might be a risk of the iPad coming free.

Interesting question that this credible section seem to have passed over.

Any ideas? On a GS?

Well its quite easy really, the bit of the rev counter thats coloured red, well what the idea is to get the needle as far into that as possible and keep it there.

The longer you keep it there the bigger the prize you get! Simples

It's a serious question. I've noticed one on every single bike I've bought, but I've never used it and think the dash real-estate might be better used for a clock, a petrol gauge and an integrated iPod or lockable storage cubby

I value the rev counter a lot for up shifting when going for it. On the GS even with it blocked I could see the relevant bit before the red in my peripheral - but the beauty of the boxer is you don't have to chase the revs.

When I tested the K1600GT the rev counter was used all the time, cos that engine just screams and is so addictive that if I didn't I'd be bouncing off the limiter! (On a closed track m'lud)

On older bikes it was to let you know when the engine was about to explode, modern bikes have red limiters so there is no real need for a rev counter. Half of it is a man thing, we like dials and whizz bangs on the dash. It makes us feel clever. All the functions modern LCD dashes have are for bar room bragging. Few people use them all.

After a while most people dont take much notice of it, we tend to change gear by feel or sound. Its a gadget thing that blokes love. Ask the missus what revs her car really starts to pull from? I doubt she'll even know what a rev counter means.

Before anyone has a pop about that last comment I speak only from experience. Other women are available from well known retailers etc etc

Out of interest, if you are the penultimate GPS Luddite, who is the ultimate Luddite?

Also, would anyone have a POI file for brothels and cake shoppes, my Nav IV is sorely missing this.

Apparently he's out there, somewhere on the road ... if you meet a stranger ... lost and alone and miles from anywhere comfortable ... let alone a cake shoppe ... be kind enough to let him use your GPS so he can find his hotel ;)

You really have a 9'' iPad on the bike to watch video :eek? Why ? ''Because I can'' is not an answer. I want logic with a sprinkle of common sense.:augie

See! That's what I do!... Bounce of the limiter a couple of times when I first get the bike and then I subconsciously store the aural range in which I can ride and avoid it.

No need for the counter!

I've thought about adding the HuaWei 3G Mifi http://www.computerweekly.com/blogs/inspect-a-gadget/Huawei%20E%205331%20Value%20MiFi.jpgand fitting it in the cubby under the pillion seat, powered off one of NN's power distribution modules http://www.nippynormans.com/products/f650stcsgsdakar/item/pdm60-power-distribution-module-row-pdm60, sharing the WEP code with my fellow riders and providing a mobile 3G LAN we can all share en-route.

Just thinking what SSID to use.... perhaps in the WC/Toilet vein I should go for: "It hurts when IP"???

So you can masturbate in rhythm to the same porn film ? :D
Now I know why you need a iPad:thumb

on an 1150 I use it because my speedo bulb has blown so at night if I really need to I can do the mental maths to check my speed.

On my Airhead it's redundent as it runs out of breath before the valves bounce - Hmmm I wonder if it's the valve bouncing that makes it out of breath

On the HP2 it's dusty from 5000rpm upwards because it's to friggin scary above that.

On my 2004 gs with my garmin 2610(aka BMW nav II) and official bmw bracket, not only do I have real buttons to press, but a can see all my dials.
Some things do not progress over time. I do still wonder why bmw did not continue with that style of bracket and sat nav integration.
Things you like are in the right place. It's part of the justification/comfort of being fleeced by BMW.
