Hi I'm stuck with what to do. I have a tomtom go live 1000 satnav which I use for the car which is very good. I'm going backwards and forwards with buying a motorbike satnav like the rider 2 or just using the go live 1000 in a tank bag like the toureg special which has a pocket on top of the bag for the satnav.
The go live brings the problems of hearing the instructions and durability. But I'm not using the satnav for anything other than long weekend trips in the uk.
So ultimately it's which way to go, are there any good solutions for the go live 1000 in terms of decent Bluetooth connection to it etc.
Cheers
I had a Tom Tom Rider V2 Europe with the Cardo Scala blue tooth headset, I sold it with my last bike and it was a very good GPS unit, although it only came with a 1GB SD card and the first free update wouldn't fit so I had to go and buy a 2gb SD card which in 2007 were expensive !
On my current bike I have a Garmin Street Pilot 2820 with a BWM Nav 111 cradle wired into the can bus and Autocom ( I have this for sale at present )
However like you I also have a very, very good car satnav in the shape of a Garmin Nuvi 765WT ( W=Widescreen T = Traffic Alerts ) it also has lane guidance for junctions with photo realistic graphics of the junction.
In terms of GPS it is the Bees Knees.
To replicate its features on a dedicate bike GPS would cost a fortune.
So I have gone down the line of buying a waterproof case and lead, and it all works brilliantly.
I have even downloaded the European BMW Motoraad dealer database in POI and motorcycle SRF icons so that I can replace the standard blue car.
The only thing with the 765WT is that it needs to fit in a small cradle, and is powered via a 9 pin plug.
This then locks into a 24 pin point at the bottom of the GPS unit.
This makes it some what awkward when in the case and attaching the power lead and audio.
I am thinking about buying a USB lead and powering it from a cigarette socket direct from the battery , it would then fit flush in the case as I could do away with the cradle.
Its never going to be as convenient as a dedicate bike GPS , but its a darn site cheaper option to have the same , if not better functions.
