Location
Cheshire ....somewhere on my bike
Pipster asked me to post this because I am sat behind a desk and he's sat behind the controls of some enormous 30 tonne excavating machine .

Ride out tomorrow......destination somewhere around North Wales, Lake Vrynwy, Bala direction. Mileage not too high, duration about 5 or 6hrs.

START POINT : Apparently there is a little cafe ( name unknown) by the side of the canal on the A49 near Beeston about a mile and a half south of the A49/A51 JUNCTION.

SO for example if you are coming from Nantwich on the A51 you would turn left at the lights where the Red Fox is/was (I think its still there but closed ) onto the A49 and after a mile or so go down the bank and look for the cafe on your left near the canal, if you get to the railway bridge you have gone too far.

On this map (ignore the red circle) you can see the canal (blue line) and the railway line ( black line with sticky out bits) and the cafe is basically where the road crosses the canal.

At the moment it's Pipster (Phil) , Zapada ( Malc) with me tagging along. They aim to meet at the cafe before 9am and we will wait for anybody else until 9:15 .

Not sure if Phil wants his mobile plastered over the net so here is mine if anyone wants to text tonight or in the a.m to say they are coming along.

Substitute a zero for the asterisk:thumb

Umm not sure what was going on then...... promise I had no part in it though - wondered why they were gone so long on the 'green lane' excursion:augie

Well with winter coming ,or is it here now:blast
how about a nice winters day ride into Wales or even Yorkshire..with the odd green lane ;);)
i'll let someone else organzie it which i'll be happy to play a part in doing my map reading for the day:thumb:thumb
So if Randall and Hopkirk (RUSHY & PHIL ) are PLANNING ANOTHER LET US ALL KNOW a week or two before hand:D:D:D

Well we all met at the cafe "The Lock Gate Cafe" right near the railway bridge at the allotted time. Phil (yellow 12GS) and Rob (red 11GS) were there when I arrived , then Simon on his 1150Adv turned up closely by Terry on his map laden 1150Adv and then Malc (blue12GS) with steve and his mrs on their mandarin 1150GS.

It was the first time in the past year or more that I have been on a rideout where the 12's are outnumbered:clap:P

After a quick coffee it started to rain:( so we put our lids on and our slightly demented tour guide Terry led us off toward Wrexham and North Wales .

RideOut019.jpg

The rain quickly stopped and although we saw a brief patch of blue the skies were mainly grey. The autumnal colours were great though, full of reds, yellows and burnt oranges. Managed to snap a few shots whilst riding but they didnt come out too well.

RideOut029.jpg

Phil in the distance still unable to lose me even though i am shooting with my throttle hand...

RideOut032copy.jpg

Terry led us down some narrow lanes and over the hills heading, in a roundabout fashion, towards Lake Vrynwy.

The gang

My 1150;

RideOut003.jpg

Eventually he found the head of a lane he was looking for for a future off road ride. The gang stop and decide who is going to try it on the GSs. Check out the track leading up the hill close to where they are stopped

RideOut007copy.jpg

It was quite a rocky steep ascent initially. Steve was not going to try it two up (wise man) Rob wasnt going to risk damaging his very mint 11 and the gate got closed behind the others before I got chance to follow 'em:augie Malc, Phil and Terry have all got pogos too and Simon seemed keen to give his ADV a workout so off they went.

RideOut008.jpg

We met them a few miles down the road in the next village. The very friendly landlady of the local pub ( she was English:D) made us all coffes whilst we waited outside even thought they weren't open for another hour.

Then it was across to Vrynwy for lunch...........going through a nice wlesh forest along the way

Rob thought the woods were scary and couldnt wait to get the hell outta there

Thats nice to know - I bought it from Brian O who got it from Southport Superbikes I think.

Please feel free to PM:thumb

Did you purchase it new then? can't remember the number of owners

Had a really good day out and I would like to thank Terry and the rest of his gang for showing me parts of Wales I've never seen before. Don't know why Terry even bothers with maps he's obviously got a cracking knowledge of all those parts without them. Thanks, Simon, (silver ADV). Top guys. :thumb

Rideout Part 2

After we left the forest we parked our bikes here;

RideOut027.jpg

And then we walked into here "The Tower Tavern" straight past the bar , into the restaurant and despite a very slight amount of drizzle in the air straight out onto the terrace to take in the view.

RideOut028.jpg

Admiring the scenery..................Its a view that quite a few who went on the LLangollen road in 2006 and 2007 ride might recognise albeit from a much more elevated viewpoint.

RideOut026.jpg

Its a great hotel & pub/restaurant that looks over Lake Vrynwy and although its not cheap to stay there because of the location the lunch menu wasn't too expensive at all. £2 for a very small cup of tea was a surprise though :o

Everyone fed and happy and looking forward to the next 75 miles.......

RideOut025.jpg

From here we headed south onto the well known A470 and then east towards Welshpool on the A483 running through a brief rain shower for the second time that day. No more phots thought due to the rain and the increased road speeds ( the A470 is quick road:thumb2) We then skirted north towards Oswestry and the group started splitting up as everyone headed home in their separate directions.

As previosuly said it's always nice to meet a few new faces and it was a very pleasant days riding. The best thing was riding home with very little traffic and as it started to go dark it felt like the end of the weekend but it was only 4pm on Saturday. No more Sunday rides for me.

A big Thanks to Phil (Pipster) for suggesting the ride and to Terry (KTM525) for leading it. They both get a big thumbs up from me:D

You all have noticed that the old guy with the blue GS12 was in fornt on the off roadpic:rob

and last in the queue for buying a hair brush because you do not need one...
