Looks like a multistrada with a glowing alien face hugger as a headlight. Certainly a change of identity for the GS.

I guess until we see it for real it’s hard to conclude - but my initial reaction is that it’s a final acknowledgement that the future of the big GS is really just as a road bike in a dress.

In that role, it’s going to have be bloody good - and a lot better-built than their recent efforts - if they want it to live with with the Multistrada.

Still, we’ve all been sceptical before and proven wrong. Maybe they’re hoping the bods who really want to do dual-sport/ adventure riding will fancy new 900…

I think you could be right there, what is know in the car world as a "soft-roader" Although knowing BMW it will probably turn out to be fantastic.

Spotted plenty of the Harley thingy in France this past 2 weeks. Loads of them. Almost spotted as many as BMW GS's. Maybe because I was in the Pyrenees and Cevennes and Haut Alps.

The original success of the GS, it seems to me, was a result of original thinking and bmw going their own way. This horrible version could be a KTM or any other large trailee. Bit of a shame really.

mind you i also dont like tft screens or these other modern gadgets, lol, so this bike is probably not aimed at me. Which is good, coz it missed!

What a bland looking bike. The front end looks like the V-Strom 800...but not as nice. It will sell by the crate load as the PCP brigade will leap onto the next big 'must have' thing.

That’s mad. I spent 16 days in france during the summer and only saw 1 Pan American and that was close to a Harley Dealer. A few around Northern Ireland but more GS’s and Africa Twins..

it looks a bit 'meh' in the pictures. It's lost some of the distinct features you expect, and does blend into the background/generic styling. Perhaps on the flesh seeing the proportions might be different, as well as different colours too.

an improvement over its predecessor.

Why ?
The typical Brit biker had a sports bike , got fat then bought a GS. PCPs arrived . GS gets ‘ upgraded’ every 2/3 years .
Look how they eagerly await the 1300.
It’s certainly got the X Factor

Slightly offbeat machines such as large scoots are ‘gay’.
Many ‘wouldn’t be seen dead on that ‘ if it doesn’t conform to their blinkered view of two wheels.
Yet cross the channel and they embrace all things two wheels .
The drivers even pull over to help you pass rather than try knock you off as in UK.

I quite like it, but I also like the Pan Am, though I don't think I've ever seen one of those on the road in any of my travels throughout mainland Europe, Britain or Ireland.

My current bike is a 10 year old 1200 GSA TC which I've had from new but the notion of central locking luggage and an electric screen could finally tempt me to make the switch.
