i don't really have to take the ABS unit off to change a throttle cable on an 11** do i???

there's got to be some easy way i'm missing to get this cable distributor box out surely

I have read a few writeups on the subject and none mention removing the ABS, I believe some mention a breather pipe, as I probalby have this job coming up I await developments with interest, nice corrosion btw

it slides out from underneath the battery/abs/ecu carrier. the problem is the distributor box hitting that poxy bracket that's only there to hold the tank electrics connector

the carrier is rubber mounted and can be twisted, but only seems to move clockwise, viewed from above, thus moving the bracket further into it's way.

maybe if i dismantle more of the surrounding gubbins, i will be able to twist it the other way?

i've given up for today. might have another look tomorrow.

ps. i've already shifted the breather pipe.

pps. just to add a bit of spice to proceedings, the plastic box is wedged into the mild steel carrier with rust, but i've got over that.

Its a bit of a tight fit but it should come out enough for you to change the cables.

Strange, I changed the throttle cables on my R1150GS (year 2000) on wednesday and didn't have a problem getting the junction box out. I only had to move the breather pipe out of the way.

Ah - now it makes sense - I couldn't work out how they could be so different

I'll be sticking with the daisy chain cable on mine...

That explains it, my four way connector just sort of hangs there If the little bracket is the only impediment a little frame lightening might be in order

Edit: On a related note, are the old style 'daisy chain' cables that bad? Mine still has one at 36,000 (and is about to get another).

it's a bit tight in there for an angle grinder, so i'm now wondering if a dremel might be man enough to take a chunk out of 1/8" mild steel?

i think a notch cut into the bracket would let the box through.

Did this job on my 1100 over the winter. Left/right as sitting on bike.
Take off one end of the breather tube on the right hand side (very difficult as the original clips are the same as you get inside the petrol tank - I replaced them with jubilee type clips on reassembly)
Separate LH throttle cable from injector butterfly. Going in from the left with a screwdriver - lift the metal "tang" above the spltter box (bit of a pig to see this but its what holds the box in place) - the box should push out left to right. There is usually enough slack in the "choke" cable to let you do this.
