I've said it more times than I care to remember... The problems you've been reading about are written in a 1200 GS technical forum. Nobody posts saying "my bike's been working perfectly" in here.

You've made a good choice, and if all else fails and something does go wrong, you've got that nice cushy BMW aftersales agreement to relax with. They'll even give you a free courtesy bike/car if your bike goes wrong!

Just don't worry about it, and enjoy your new bike

I wouldn't worry at all...just enjoy your bike, cos it is one hell of a bike!

I have posted on here about a problem my bike is experiencing at the moment (only a minor blip).....but not for a moment would I hesitate at going and buying another GS!

In fact, if it wasn't for the fact that these bikes are robust, and are built to be used (and abused?), and feel therefore it is almost dis-respectful to trade them in every couple of years as some do with other models/brands, without really giving it chance to do what it was designed for, I would have bought the new 2008 GS Adventure this year!

These bikes are built to go far...and they enjoy/expect those miles....once you own one, so will you!!

As has been said, all bikes have issues.....but I think in general they are minor issues, and I think BMW are one of the best to try and sort it out if there is a problem (subject to dealership, and probably only rivalled by Honda??)

I have had my 1200 for over 3 years now with 34,000 km on it.

It's a great bike and it always brings a smile to my face when a ride it.

I dualsport it now and take it places I never thought I would. It takes a Licking put it keeps on Ticking.

As has been pointed out you only hear about the bad stuff.

To put things in perspective I went on the World of BMW Tour of South Africa in April, which was a truly amazing trip, and throroughly recommend them to anyone considering a biking holiday. We rode 07 1200 GS's. There were 12 bikes, mostly two up. We covered 3,500 kms on a variety of roads in varying temperatures and weather. I can report that there was not a single problem with any of the bikes, and with an accumulated mileage of 42,000 kms - that must say something for their reliability!

I also went on the BMW Offroad Skills course. You would not believe the stick these bikes can take. In fact the riders incurred more damage than the bikes!

On the back of that tour I have part ex'd my 1150 RT for an 07 GSA, which I absolutely love and now cannot imagine owning any other bike!

Mine ~ '04, 1200GS, 47168 Miles, all weathers, day in day out, no worries!

Unless a new battery, new rear disc, and a right hand heated grip failure, is a big wet your pants situation (some here would possibly have a hissy fit !)

oh and Ive had to fit new tyres and brake pads!! let alone have to put air in the tyres and oil in the engine

And then consider the outrage of having to buy a head lamp bulb AND a tail light bulb!!!!!!!

GET IT, ride it, break it, fix it, ride it somemore!!!!!

I think the problem is that this forum has so many members that by the law of averages there are going to more problems highlighted

I was worried when I first started reading the stuff on here but now I've actually got my GSA I'm more interested in getting on with riding it

The warranty seems pretty comprehensive so I'm confident the bike will be fixed asap if the worst does happen

Ive got a 55 plateb 1200... and I love it!

Ive had a couple of problems (fuel pump controller, ring antenae, and right hand switch gear......... ALL promptly fixed under warranty).

Its nearly 3 years old, and I love it! Its mechanical/electrical, so things can go wrong. Just ride it, and enjoy it. I love mine (if you hadnt guessed) and can only ever see me trading it in for another one (but not just yet)...and maybe an Adventure next, as I dont like the new styling of the plain jane 12
