Schuberth C3 Autocom comfort problem

Have used autocom for years in Arai lids but recently bought a Schuberth C3 and the Autocom speakers when fitted to the recesses sit right up against my ears and cause a lot of pain after half an hour. It is not an issue with earplugs because neither my Ultimate Ear or foam plugs help. In fact the C3 without the autocom fitted still hurts my ears with the UE plugs so I'm getting the plugs modified by UE (which is a saga in itself) but absolutely no problem at all with the foam plugs. Right now I'm thinking that the only solution for autocom is going to be to get in ear monitor earplugs and do away with the autocom speakers and get the adapted autocom headset which accepts the monitors. Anyone else had similar problems and come up with a solution?
Because I often have a pillion and use the intercom and use the ipod I can't go with a BT Scala solution.
The problem is that that the autocom speakers are too thick for the C3 helmet. I don't want to go down the route of compressing the helmet foam with a spoon...

I had this problem, I just sat down for 10 minutes and trimmed a little of the foam out. Now I have space for my ears and the world is a better place.

Interesting! How did you trim the foam? Did you cut foam out to make a deeper recess so the speakers sit further back into the helmet or did you cut around the sides to move the speakers back or forwards?
Any photos?

I just trimmed to make a slightly deeper recess so they sat further in. I just used a leatherman whilst sitting in a french cafe over a cafe au lait after a rather painful ride. No pictures of it being done I am afraid

I had a similar problem with the BMW system 6 helmet and autocom speakers.

I didn't want to modify the helmet but I found that you can press the autocom speakers out of their plastic mountings. They are just glued in and careful pressure will push them out. Autocom gave me advice on doing this. Its fairly simple just be careful of not trapping the wires and pulling them off of the speakers.

Without the plastic mountings the autcom speakers are much smaller and fit into the helmet recesses much better. It worked for me so maybe worth trying before you damage your helmet.
