I currently use a Schoei Multitec which fits fine and does what it says on the tin but I feel "removed" from the outside world and would like a good open face helmet.

I am leaning towards the J1 as I like the idea of the integral sun visor combined with some air on the face without the need for goggles. Anybody out there any experience, good or bad, that they would pass on?:bow

I've got one of those, had it for the past year.

Like you I wanted an open face with a sun visor, so I got one.

Good points:
Quieter than a Tour X
Vents on top work well
Comfy and well built
Doesn't mist up at all
Excellent visibility

Bad points:
The sun visor is crap (I never use it now)
The little placcie chin guard is pointless

Would I buy another? Yes, definitely. :thumb

Hi,
Just curious... why is the sun visor crap? The one on the Concept is great - I use it all the time... what's the difference with the J1?

Is the chin guard realy plastic? It looks like it's steel or summat... I assumed it would save your chin in a major off... do you disagree??

I like teh thought of an open-face helmet again (for summer, at least), but like (the illusion of) safety that the flip-up gives.

The sun visor only covers half of your eyes, which is very disorientating (to me anyway). The chin guard is some form of plastic - might help a bit, but chocolate teapot springs to mind....

Other than that it's a great helmet - like I said I'd buy one again.

Clearly I don't know how to do that. I found the item on Yahoo search whilst searching for Schuberth J1. It's starts as web.mac.com and is written by some bloke called Eric
Try this!!!!!!!!!!

Regarding the Sun visor... On my C2 I never look through it.. As mentioned it doesn't come down far enough, and it's disorienting... I always just position it so that it keeps the sun off my eyes... Works great that way for me.

Regarding the Chin bar... When I looked at the J1 at the shop, I also felt that it seemed awful light... but without seeing any kind of test data on it, I wouldn't be so sure that it wouldn't do the job of keeping your face off the pavement... There are a lot of similar seeming objects used in Formula 1 cars... very light... very tough...

If anyone ever comes off and renders the helmet US... I'd sure love to have a look at the chin bar for some destructive tests...

Good Thread:thumb2
its a lid i've always been curious about. only mildly though - coz the cost is HUGE for what you actually get.
i wear an open face 95% of the time / a Tour X when training as its easier to deal with the mic/ear speakers.
not to mention the safety nazis that tell me i should be wearing a full face / setting an example:spitfire

this seems to be the best of both worlds:confused:

often wondered why this idea of a "micro" chinbar hasn't caught on - the snow sports people seem to have a good range of lids with this... why not Bikers?

my son has the Caberg Justimo - there is an open face version of this - it has the sun visor / no chinbar.
he likes the full faced Justimo / i dont - very heavy and the cheek pads give me "hamster cheeks":D

only hope someone comes up with an alternative.... til then - i'll stick with wot i got.:thumb

Germans are not normally associated with cheap gimmicks and tend to have very sztrict product testing (TUV). My guess is that the chin bar will afford a reasonable level of protection and I sincerely hope I never find out personally!

i ponder lonely as a cloud....

Hmmmmmm..... . . . . . . .

*sound of cogs grinding slowly in Ogs brain*

Thank you gentlemen:thumb2

New J1 arrived

Ordered it Sunday and it arrived today which is pretty damned quick for this neck of the woods.

Having noted the points raised on the site and by "Eric" I opened the box with more curiosity than excitement!

It's great! The visor is perfect and the sun thingy is fine for me although I can see how it may bother others. The fit is tighter than my Multitec even though it is (allegedly) one size bigger but is very comfortable.

The field of vision is fantastic and I was able to get it on and off with the chinguard attached but wont be doing it again as I almost tore my ears off.

As for the chinguard, it is definitely of some sort of "plastic" type construction but appears very sturdy as my ears can confirm! I believe it is an integral part of the helmets safety features and I will be using it all the time.:beerjug: :bow

Overall.....well happy. Many thanks for the input guys.
