Hi,

Its time for a new lid, I currently have a C1 and its one of the best lids I have had, but I cant have a flip front this time. Is the S1 the next best thing or is there somthing else out there beter? It going to be used mainly for Touring.

Whats a S1 like to live with?

Brian

S1....Yep had one for about 3 years...still fits like a glove (thought I,d bought a size too small when I got it, took a couple of thousand miles + to get comfi. )

Really well built....BUT riding in the rain is ferking suicide cos rain pisses in past the seal (they all do that sir ) visor mists up and you car,nt see feck all...

Tend to ride with me visor up when it rains...

Well the 2 I've got don't. The second one has a pinlock visor and I can't see how you'd better the whole system. Removable cheek pads maybe.

Perhaps if you took time to read the manual and see that the visor position is adjustable and a full seal is easily achievable with minor adjustment you'd feel better :nenau

I got both of mine from Germany where they were much cheaper. Although I don't know if this still holds.

My 3rd helmet will be an S1 Pro.

Had one for 5 years, all seasons. If your head is trh eeright shape it o sone of the most comfortable helmets around, and very well made. The anti-mist coating to teh visor is good, for a while, but a FogCity improves it. Certainly quiet, except for cross-winds.

I would definitely consider another one; but have no opinion whether it is the best for you...

Bought one in Germany at the back end of last year for use on my Kat, It is one of the few helmets that has felt right straight away, very quiet, nicely finished and the inner sun visor is a superb idea.
Pity the Schuberth flip fronts don't fit me or my system 5 would be getting binned.

Just gone on the link of Wreford Miles, gave them a call and they not only price matched with Infinity's price £259.99 but beat it by a £1, for a C2, so i hope they are as good as I read, I need a quiter helmet, might stop me shouting :D

S1 best lid I've owned but as others have said only after I fitted the pinlock visor system.

I have recently retired a C1 heavy and noisy and didn't want to pay the same again for a C2 so bought a Caberg Justissimo GT, oh dear what mistake, in comparison the C1 is a well built helmet and with the fog city an all the time usable helmet, the C2 I understand is lighter and quieter and I just know I should have thrown another one'r at it and got the C2 :(

Most people I know have changed to a C2 from a C1 and reccon its an improvement. I would get a C2 as well, but I want to remove the temptation to ride with the front up. If I get a wack in the face in the right place I could bleed to death which is a bit of an incentive to get a full face helmet!

S'OK you're making the right decision on both counts - you're getting an S1 :thumb and you're not getting a Caberg Justissimo over the C2 :thumb:thumb

S1 - i must have done, dunno, 35,000 miles in it.....

good bits-
- the visor is very wide - it allows excellent peripheral vision.
-it's very quiet.
-mine doesn't leak any water.
-autocom installed no problems.
- had the visor replaced 3 / 4 times when the anti fog stuff stops working (never a problem - straight swap)

bad bits-
-the "shell" is large - i have a size "small" - and it won't fit in a 1200gs vario back box, (when all other brands of helmets i have do fit in the backbox) ......

i would definately buy another.

Have an S1 Carbon- not sure if you were looking at one of these- beautifully made, really light, very good fit, and the ventilation is excellent. Optical quality of the visor is average and the antifog coating is a waste of time. I would imagine with a Pinlock or Fog City it would be close to perfect. Real plus is that it's very, very quiet compared to any other helmet I've tried.

good but i think there r a very big lid
good on a gs but poo on 999s cant turn head, just got shoei hornet
miles better than tour x ,10 x quieter

S1

Just bought an S1 Pro from Custom Lids. So far I'm impressed. It's quiet and comfortable. It doesn't feel heavy and the zone of vision is good. It came with a pinlock and a drop down sun visor as standard. I haven't fitted the Autocom headset yet. Looks a bit of a challenge.

Postscript

After taking account of all the above, I got a S1 from http://helmetcity.co.uk/ £230

I went to their shop and tried on the S1 before I brought it.

A few days later, after some rain I had a problem with the anti fog coating and they sent out replacement visors straight away. I paid the difference between the S1 & S1 Pro visor and got pinlock.

Its a great lid and very quiet. I can also recommend Helmet City for dealing with the visor problem quickly and with none of the 'crap' I expected.

got mymself a s1 pro, 340 quid from helmet city,

moved from arai, got it mostly for the inernal sun visor, which is excellent.

much quieter, vents work well,

I have an S1 and a J1, both are excellant lids, although the J1 sun visor doesn't come down far enough. Might be tempted by the S1 carban next
