Schuberth S1 owners only

I have had my Carbon S1 for 18 months and I guess I must have been lucky or it just fits better - I would buy another tomorrow if I needed another helmet.
Very quiet - replaced original visor because of peeling after 2 weeks, new one has lasted since with no problems - Drop down sun visor works a treat - have Autocom fitted ear speakers fitted - if it ever mists up I just open it a crack and it sorts itself out within a few seconds without any leaks - did I say how quiet!!
I have a J1 for really hot weather but prefer the S1.

I got my S1 from Helmet City for £275 which is a good price (IMO).

After a week the anti-fog coating started to peel from where the visor touches the silicone seal. Helmet City replaced it straight away without any fuss for the new type. This one has the anti-fog coating applied so that it does not touch the silicone seal at all.

PLUS POINTS

Very quiet
Venting is good if you have no screen
Appears to be very well made
Sun visor is excellent

MINUS POINTS
Misting in the rain
Rain runs down the inside of the visor when you crack it open to get rid of the misting
It's a bit too big to get in my BMW top box and/or panniers (OK in my H&B top box though)

Would I buy another? Yes definately, top kit.

As for the pinlock visor I have found a UK producer of them and he supplies them for £60 + P&P, if your interested I'll give you his details. I've not got one yet as the misting has not caused me any serious problems but I may get one now winter is setting in.

They cost £39.99 for the visor, plus £24.99 for the pinlock system and £2 P&P.

The pinlock system is installed into the new visor that has the original anti-mist coating. The thing to be aware of is that the silicone seal around the pinlock system may lift the anti-mist coating from the visor unless left to dry out after use in the cold or wet. This guidance is provided by Schuberth anyway as the anti-mist coating absorbs moisture to some extent.

He said that one of his customers had used one extensively over the last year and it was still perfect.

Hi all,

I have a schuberth C2 and enquired about fitting a pinlock visor into it to stop misting and was told that the pinlock might not work due to the existing anti-fog coating on the visor. I assume that this would also apply to the S1 visor?

A new Schuberth visor is £40 and they do make their own Pinlock version and this is £95

I think that Chris has a decent alternative and it's on my Christmas list.

There you go then, perhaps it's better than the UK option.

It's like anything, pays to shop around. For example my S1 was £389 in Infinity but I managed to get it the same day, elsewhere for £275, not mail order either.

I know I said misting in the rain but it is ridiculous.

On Friday evening I was caught in quite a nasty downpour and the visor was next to useless. It is OK when you are on the move but the second you slow down it just mists up totally. So you crack it open a tad then the friggin' rain runs in and that's it finished

I sprayed some anti fog stuff on it last night and this morning in yet more rain it performed OK on the move then at the traffic lights I counted to 10 and it was completely useless

I know visors mist up but this is the worst one I have ever had. Pinlock being ordered!

Still does it

We left Berchesgarten last Sept in heavy rain from the hotel, in the morning.

We travelled about 20-25 miles through German A&B roads at about 50mph & below, following heavy traffic which took about 20-25 mins until we reached the Salzburg-Munich Autobahn

The Pinlock S1 visor misted around the edges and eventually the Pinlock insert misted up too (unlike any FogCity i've used)

It wasn't until we got on the motorway and were travelling in excess of 70-80mph that the visor cleared...................APALLING

I hate to think what town driving at sub 30mph in heavy rain would be like with a S1 visor ..........with or without Pinlock insert

Well a 45 mile commute home from Heathrow to Warlingham (near Caterham) on the M25 and roads to and from. On a Friday evening rush hour in torential rain, is very, very scarry I had to ride with the visor open and just let the rain hit me full on, because the rain was just pouring down the inside of the visor.

That combined with my BMW Summer Rain gloves that have now failed me, big style set the scene for a very memorable ride home.

That said, my HG jacket, trousers and boots performed impecably, not a drop got through

There seems to have been a bit of a hiccup with the supply of Schuberth helmets to the UK. Is anyone aware of the detail?

I'd heard that the previous importers (Tran-AM?) weren't aware that Schuberth had decided to change importers to Oxford Products. As I understand it, Oxford Products have now bought all the remaining stock from Tran-Am.

Trouble is a lot of dealers are getting very jittery as they've had absolutely NO contact from Oxford Products at all. Bizzare!

I can't seem to find an S1 Carbon for love nor money!

Assuming that I (eventually) get one, does anyone know how easy it is to fit a Starcom systym in them?

Can only agree. 50k in 3 years (I have a mark 1 with the quick release clasp - I would have preferred the later 'D' ring). The dark visor thingy is just so useful that my (previously beloved Arai and Shoei) sit unused on a shelf. I had one of those peeling visor jobs, but the first two were superb. The fourth (the replacement for the peeler) is now pretty bad at misting (or so I thought until I put the Arai on last month). Never had rain inside of visor, and the rain beading/clearance is so so soooo much better than any other helmet I have.

I have just spent a fortune on a new visor plus some kind of 'react to lite' fog city thing for my Arai, I did love that helmet, so if I could sort the sun and misting thing, then it might be as good as my S1.

Oh yeah, and in answer to your question re the Starcom, no I never got that sorted effectively. The helmet 'skirt' drags the leads very tight to your face, I did get one earphone in reasonably comfortably, but not the other, and they did tend to rip out every time I took the helmet off.

All other questions eg lifesavers weight etc,: as good as anything I have ever owned except for my old Arai open face or my (recently purchased) Schuberth J1.

the little "nobbly" bit that locks the visor (schuberth s1 carbon) to the helmet snapped off last week - not sure how....

took it to infinity - no receipt / no proof of purchase...asked for a straight swap there and then (visor, not helmet) - they weren't going to because of the "recent change in uk importer" but after 30 seconds of polite complaining saying that was a poor excuse they did a straight swap. i have another new visor under warranty after 2 years (?) ...... i don't know if you'd get that with all helmet manufacturers (infinity excahnged it - but they ultimately recuop the cost from schuberth so warranty excellent in my view.)

still the best lid i have ever had. worth every penny.

bad bits-
big "shell" - lid doesn't fit in the bmw vario top box.
