I will be after a new helmet in the not too distant future.

My old Schuberth R1 http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/motorcycle-helmet/schuberth-r1/was a nice helmet compared to me previous Roof 010. http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/roof-helmet/roof-lema So they are my personal benchmarks.

So, how useful is it to have a flip up helmet in reality. I wear glasses incidentally. helmet must be able to have Pinlock system.

Has anyone owned both and would care to comment.

What alternatives are there out there. I know that just because it's expensive, it's not necessarily a better helmet than others. But the quality of the Schuberth is better than that of the Roof.

As a far cheaper option there is the Caberg Ego. http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/motorcycle-helmet/caberg-ego/review.htm

I obviously would need to try any helmet on, as I remember trying on a helmet in Infinity, as soon as I dropped the flip up down, I removed it. The helmet just felt flimsy and cheap.

Pays your money and takes your choice.

No comments about £100 helmets for £100 heads either. I've read enough bike magazines to realize that fit is most important. Also seen in Ride magazine some cheap helmets outperforming dear ones.

I can't find a review from the above web site for either of the Schuberths.

BMW system 6 perhaps?

Adventure Bike Rider magazine has recently reviewed helmets with peaks and flip ones, unfortunately for you in separate issues. Nolan got top marks in both.

I used to have one of the concepts, but decided in the end it was a bit heavy and I didn't really need the flip bit. For me the deal breaker is no internal sun visor.

Currently have an S1 Pro and the only real gripe is it does seem to get stuffy inside when it gets over 25 deg C, meaning I find it necessary to crack open the visor.

C3

I have C3 , very comfortable, would imagine lots of benefits for you wearing glasses, mostly the flip front should allow you to remove your specs in a more dignified manner and the built in flip down tinted visor is great in strong sunlight and easily and quickly flipped back up if it goes cloudy.:thumb

I have to say that having posted reasonably positively on another thread in this forum re. the C3 (first impressions having just bought one), after a few long rides, I'm feeling a lot less enthusiastic.

The main prob is noise, which I never thought I would say re. a Schuberth lid. It's not massive, but there's appreciable whistling which wasn't a feature of my earlier S2 and the (non-flip) one before that. I always reach for the earplugs if I'm planning to go over 100 miles anyway, so it's not a big deal, just a bit surprising.

Another annoyance is that, now the weather is warm, I find I have to shut the top vent to stop my (bald) bonce getting bothered by little half dead flies wriggling away their final moments.

Also, when I pull laterally outwards on the straps to put on/off the helmet, I have to make sure I'm pulling on the ends of the straps, because if the edges of my hands bear on to the bottom corners of the helmet next to the straps, those edges are surprisingly sharp.

The action of the sunvisor mech could be a bit better too.

These helmets aren't cheap, so I'll be living with it for a while yet, and none of these things are showstoppers, it's still a reasonably good helmet, but I'll be casting the net a bit wider next time round.

HJC RPHA Max

Check out the HJC RPHA Max. The lightest and quietest modular helmet out there. Plus it has grooves in the lining to take glasses and is pinlock ready. Okay, it is not a fashionable name like Schuberth/Arai/Shoei but the quality is up there with the best of them. I have had the HJC HQ1 carbon helmet and can dfinitely vouch for the quality of the helmet. If I was in for a modular helmet the RPHA Max would be in the mix.

Have had no problems with my C3- don't understand the noise thing? May be just a bad one. I had full face Shoei helmets beforehand but wouldn't go back. I do like the idea of an endure lid... just can't justify it though!

Best of luck!!

Agreed HJC are excellent helmets quiet and comfy .. And very well made

I find a lot depends on the bike you a riding .

I have a C3 and a S1 Pro.

I love the C3 for the flip front, great at petrol stations, toll booths etc and I tend to flip up the front around town in hot weather. It is great on my GSA and on the old GS but a total pain on my katana, it is uncomfortable and digs in at the back of my neck and just doesn't sit right.

Yet the S1 is superb on the Katana but it isn't comfotable on the GSA with loads of buffetting etc.

The C3 is quiet, the drop down sun visor is great if you wear glasses and it is good in the rain (as long as the visor is kept firmly down), the vents are okay.

Mine is now more than 3 years old , my wife bought a one two months ago to replace her C2 and loves it and the build quaility seems better than mine.

I would also take a good look at the Shoei Neotec
