Anyone got a true review of the Scorpions as I fancy trying a set , I’m not interested in long mileage as long as I can get 2.5 to 3 k out of them as a set before they go off . Normal default is the T A 3 ( not the CA3 as tried then and did not like the front profile as for me it felt lazy ) so anyone used them both here and the hot twisty roads of the Mountains in Spain etc .
Thanks

Standard fitment on 1290 Adventure - good handling tyres with rear lasting longer than my normal 4 to 5K.

Problem though with the front wearing out way before the rear on the KTM and lots of folks have had them wear strangely on the front which has put me off buying them again.

One of the tyre guys said the problem was with the specific K fitment for KTM's and that if you go for the D (Ducati) fitment then there is no issue

i wont comment on mileage too much, as everyone rides different but 3k is easily achievable.

Loved them on my 1290 ktm and have a set on my current 1250.
Brilliant tyres, alot more sportier than Tourance Next and A41s which i have also ran on the 1250.

I ride almost exclusively in the mountains of southern Spain, I fitted the Scorpion Trail 2 a year ago, and I can honestly say it's the best tyre I have ever had on. it has every thing for me, excellent grip, good feed back, turns in well. My bike is a 2015 1200 GS. I don't think you will be disappointed.

I have Scorpion Trail 2 on my Multi first impressions are good but I’ve only done 700 miles due to lockdown :tears
Looking forward to getting out and adding some miles to it soon but the planned Spain trip looks unlikely to happen for the foreseeable future.

Paul , thanks , this happens as well with the TA3 so this is a good point as they seem similar in construction , I normally change both at the same time and the front is always worn more than the rear. I'm hard on the brakes and trail brake as well as the front end allows this , Thanks for the reply.

Cheers , I have waited to try as used the older tyres once and was impressed but for some reason went off the horizon , so time to re visit. Thanks for the reply. Also good to hear they are great on the hotter roads as this is , for me , the bench mark for a tyre.

Looks like you and me will be newbie testers . thanks .

Yep , the Tourance were okay , sold after 2 rides as they were a bit twitchy , the A41 , I never tried , but felt they were not for me as the wear markers on the front are close to the limit when new , so due to my style would wear too fast .
Cheers for the reply

Been using them for years now and they are the best dual purpose tyre I've used. Must have gone through 5 sets of the PR2 and same with the original PR that were OE on my old Crosstourer.
Wear has been even both front and rear getting about 5k out a set however they do wear faster when making progress in Spain!
Great tyre highly recommended

The PS2 is my favorite tyre at the moment but I have not tried the PR5 or the new Roadtec which should be good. I know from following PR5 shod KTMs that the PS2 does not have the outright grip of the michelins in Spanish heat but it has tons of feel. In the UK it won't be an issue. For me it is one of those tyres you can trust. Wearing the front out before the rear was not an issue for me or any of my friends when they came std on the MTS and 1290ADV.

Ive done about a thou on them on my 1260 pikes peak

First set of OEM tyres that I have actually liked

My only concern is that they are right at the edge and I don't seem to have been trying

I will be swapping them for roadtec when they are worn out

I found the pR5 only lasted 1200 miles in spain so I hope the ST2 would last longer , the PR5 as a tyre is brilliant , but made of chocolate , The TA3 last around 2k on a week trip (new tyres off the lorry and back on the lorry at Barcalona )so the ST2 would need to match as the extra 800 to 1200 miles means a lot on trips the way I travel. The GS is a heavy bike and when pushing all day over 7 days with no cruising it takes it toll on the rubber.

PR5 are too soft, if you are a slower rider they are great.
But faster riders genuinely find there limit way too quick.
Before fitting one to a rim, push down on the centre of the tyre, you can almost bend the thing in half :blast

I have done 4 or 5 sets of PST2s on the GS. Have toured all over Europe on them, run them at the Ring, and in all conditions. I have also run the PR5, CRA3, and Anakee3. Currently running the PR5.

Best tyre of all of them is... the PST2.

They are not the stickiest. That award belongs to the PR5. But the PST2 are not far behind. What the PST2 do offer is:
1) Better feel - that gives confidence upto the limit (and beyond as I have had front end slides which have been saved!)
2) better transition - from side to side, there isn’t a better tyre for fast and controllable transitions. Pirelli really know how to make a great tyre for this.
3) weight - the GS feels more flickable and lighter on PST2s compared with any of the other tyres.
4) mileage - better mileage than the PR5

PST2 has been around for years, but it remains the benchmark imho.

You also notice the skinny and steep sided rear profile as well , sticky as hell but not up to the job , had a great trip but if I used them again I would need a mid week tyre change . Even over here they did not last .

You need to try the TA3 as I have the same feelings as you as that’s my benchmark tyre and hard to beat , superb under heavy braking and trailing , rear always picks up well on the power and 100 % feel .
Similar again in the feel if the front goes , but this is very occasional and as the PS3 saveable , it would be good to try as I said before used the PST1 once and liked then , so the 2 should be ace .
The PR5 as you say is sticky , there may be a new tyre on the block soon as well Sportec M9RR trail
That looks interesting but no confirmation on tread pattern etc but based on 100% fast road / spout touring .

I have intended to try the TA3, but I am Continental-shy after my poor experience with the much lauded RA3 that was so terrible they were removed after one petrol tank’s worth.

You say PST1? I never tried that, but from accounts of what I have read/heard, the PST2 was vastly improved and a conoketely different tyre compared to the PST1.

Always down to the individual, I am running the CTA2 at the moment and for me the PS2 has far more feel, I have not had the chance to ride with them in Spanish heat solo, also I now have the TT suspension so things may feel different. I may just keep the GS as a two up tool and get a toy to play with, 790?, lots of different tyres to play with all over again.
