I wouldn't bother with John O Groats, to be honest - a bit of a sh*thole with no amenities.

If you have time - nip across to Orkney, though

Other places worth a detour/stopover are:

Ullapool - great night out , picturesque

The Caledonian Canal at the south end and Neptune's Staircase
