Last weekend I was up on the isle of Skye and within the space of about 5 miles my 98 1100 gs went from fine to f*****d.

So after some basic checks and a few calls to those in the know on this forum, it was looking like I was ending my holiday sooner than planned and doing the 500 mile trip home as a passenger in a van.

But before I admitted defeat I thought I would call the nearest BM dealer to see if they had any ideas. So I call Inverness and ask to speak to the service department before they would put me through I was asked what and how old my bike was, so I gave them the info and they said to me and I quote " you have no warranty so we can't help you, goodbye".

Well as you can imagine I was disgusted by there attitude. So next I phoned Central Motorrad at Glasgow, asked to be put through to the service department, which they did. I explained the situation to Lorna and she said "the person who can help is out fueling a bike, he will be back in 5 minuets, I will get him to ring you asap". She took my phone number and low and behold Mike rang me back. I talked him through the symptoms and he said instantly it is definitely the hall sensor. He said to me he could have one in the next morning but as it was Thursday I should try Inverness to get the part as the trip there to collect it would take me about half the time.

So off I go ring Inverness and get put through to parts where when I asked to order a Hall sensors I was was greeted with a 'what?' so I tried to explain what I meant and was confront with more confusion from the other end. So as it was about 1650 (4.50pm) I hung up phoned Glasgow back and spoke with Lorna she said "yep no worries I need to order it now I will ring you back in a few minuets for payment otherwise my system will shut down for the day".Ok great she phones me back takes payment and say "it should be with us by 0830".

Low and behold after a 4.5 hour drive I arrive at Central at 0900 the next day and the sensor is there waiting for me. I get it back to the bike about 5 hours later fit it and the bike works a treat.:thumb2:thumb2

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU Mike and Lorna you are fantastic.:bow:bow:bow

Shocking but not surprising.

I'm amazed that they still sell/service bikes at Calderdon's, they obviously cant be arsed.
There are a growing number of us that have in the past spent good money with them but have ultimately given up on them because of their lack of customer service/respect. Just try walking into their showroom wearing bike gear and see how long it takes to be acknowledged. :rob
In fairness there are a few who seem to enjoy good service from them and have been given overnight accommodation FOC, but I suspect that’s only when the car side doesn’t need the flat.

Motorrad Central are regularly praised on this forum and they are worthy of that praise.
Glad that you got sorted Noiseboy, but it should have been easier :thumb2

I have generally had good service from Calterdon, but they seem to know me so maybe that helps. Some of the staff are interested in bikes. I suspect that they are busy with the car side and a small job on an old bike may be low priority. As far as I know there is also only one bike mechanic there (and no motorbike workbench). That said, when my bikes are out of warranty, they're serviced at the local bike shop which is competent and a lot cheaper and more convenient.

AMS in Wick. A good shop, though small and hidden on a back street.
Allow plenty of time though, as they can talk the hind leg off a donkey :)

As for Calterdons, I know they're two hours away (south), but I work shifts so my days off fall midweek - works well for me.
