Scratch removal

I've been offered a BMW System 5 helmet for a decent price second hand, but the back has a scratch where a garage door came down on it.

Firstly do you think this would affect the quality (i.e. safety) of the helmet and does anyone know of anyway to remove scratches from helmet services?

a scratch will hardly weaken it.... and is the scratch through the paint?
