Screen choice ?

Just acquired an 1150gsa from an esteemed member of this site. Duly fitted my taller adventure screen I had fitted from my 1150GS, hoping all would be rosy on the wind noise & buffeting front. Unfortunately I feel like a bolt in a bucket. Tis bloody noisy. What would you fellow tossers opt for, Another expensive aftermarket screen or tobinators ?. All suggestions warmly appreciated.

Essentially...BIGGER screens are the wrong approach......but you need to understand what buffeting actually is first.....loads of info here on it

put more angle on it and speed up the air flow.

I don't think a blanket 'big screens are not the way to go' statement is true personally. You own size sometimes dictates a bigger screen if I don't want to sit directly in the airflow. Depends on what helmet you wear too IMO. Deffo start with tobinators though and see if you can find a sweet spot.

Standard Adv screen with Tobies gives me buffetting but keeps the wet off. If i take the lot off and run with the cockpit cowl on i get smooth airflow but more exposure to the elements. I'm going to try a Desierto next... once i have the funds to do the paint job i have planned. Oh, i'm 1.98m and 210kg if that helps.

Tobinators & MRA screen for 45,000 miles = bliss!

I have used an aeroflow for 11 years, extra tall screen and well made. Works well for me. I am 6'6" tall.

It must be a combination of size, angle and shape....a screen at the perfect abnle will be of no use if it is infinitely small and a screen of the right size will be of no use if mounted to point horizontaly out from the front.

Problem is trying out different screens in expensive.
I have a tall GSA screen available (cracked) free if anyone wants to try it out, no good at all for me.

MRA is one of the best screens available because of it's adjustability

Fit it with GS screen mounts and/or Tobinators or without

You will like it

Standard GS MRA screen, don't need the tobinators as the standard GS screen mounts are more adjustable than an ADV .

And if it's raining lower the sliding section to keep your visor clear, don't raise it.

MRA screen plus Tobinators works superbly for me . With a Shoei Qwest I rarely have my visor down even at motorway speeds.

Aeroflow on my old 11GS was close to an RT like effect... BMW sell bikes with crap screens, crap screen angles and just make it one more thing to change... orig ADV screens were a bit of an add on and while better than hte std bike by far, a bit of a fuller, stronger screen and a much more raked angle will do the trick... Get the screen to rake back and the lip to be closer to your head in order to stop buffeting... The orig GS screens are a long way away and promote the air to go around and hit you rather than get the turbulence behind you...

Calsci, beyond a doubt. Far less buffeting than MRA with or without Tobinators.

I've got a Baileys on Tobinators. Not sure which version, got it off ebay a couple of years ago - I'm 6'4. Works for me most the time. It's probably just me but the country seems to just be getting windier year and crosswinds are always going to give turbulance.

Got one on my 1200 very good and all the bits are available, if you adjust it don't for get to tighten the screws! Guess how I found out about bits!!).

I have MRA screens on my GS and Transalp - they're OK but not fantastic. Still find the GS very noisy but no buffeting, it came with taller screen and Tobinators and the MRA is better than that setup. Maybe I'll try Tobinators and MRA screen. It's also not helped by the Caberg helmet which are probably noisiest available ... even with earplugs it's quite bad.

Oh, i'm ... 210kg if that helps.
