Recently fitted a replacement new GSA screen to a tobinated 1150 after the last on cracked at the rear fixings. The old one was successfully drilled and used for over a year before giving up completely.

After carefully fitting the new one - then cutting half of it off to suit the tobinators:mad: its gorn and cracked again :spitfire.

Can any one tell me why or more importantly how to prevent this?

Have I got the angle too high a causing excess vibration on the mounts?

I do exercise the speedo regularly but would have thought the perspex could take it.

I wish I had reverted to standard screen now, as they have much better mountings and clamping arrangement.

You might have the bolts way too tight on the screen. The screen has a complex double curvature where the fixings are. The tobinators are not machined to fit this profile so any overtightening will stress the plastic causing it to stress and crack.

See step 15 of instructions: (http://www.stopthebuffeting.com/AdventureTobinatorFittingInstructions.zip)

Now tighten the top bolts with a 5mm spanner. Once they are tight, tighten the locking nuts on the rear pieces with a 10mm spanner, holding the bolt with the 5mm allen key to stop it moving. Tobers Top Tip – as I am unable to machine the complex double curvature of the screen, don’t overtighten the top bolts as the screen can get stressed – you’ll see what I mean when you do this stage – make it tight but don’t overdo it.
