Screen Help

Winglets and hand guards fitted over the weekend. Took for a test run this morning and pleased to report that there is a definite improvement with a lot less buffeting around the midriff / chest area. Riding conditions this morning were a good test and I certainly felt still air in font of me which is a new experience on this bike. Not so sure re the hand guards, again better but maybe not just as much protection as I had hoped. however I consider both these items to be money well spent. The only discomfort is now around my neck and head. Right now I am leaning towards the Wunderlich Ergo rather than my original choices mainly for the exra width. I'll sleep on it for a few days.

Big ImprovementGot

At last got around to sourcing and fitting a new screen. From reports along with information given here it seems that the best option was to go for the GSA set-up. However couldn,t bring myself to part with that much readies to fix what I see is a BMW design fault so ended up with a Wunderlich Ergo and Tobinators. I am extremely pleased with the result, all the chest buffeting has gone and I can ride with my visor a good few clicks further open. All in all a much enhanced degree of comfort obtained at less than half the cost of the GSA option. The only downside so far is that the handlebar grip shields foul the screen on full lock. Wunderlich enclose a note saying this may happen and that they are working on it...fair enough but their noti should state this will happen. My self imposed test is that knowing what I know now would I buy the same again, the answer is yes with a comment that the GSA screen assembly is a better engineered solution with extra support etc, if you can afford it that's probably the one to go for.

Considering a new screen for my 07 1200gs. I am 6' 2" and fancy either the Bm Adventure or the MRA Vario Touring. Can anybody advise please one way or another.

I'm am also 6'2" and have a GSA screen and winglets. On the highest setting it is fine but improves immensely if I duck down an inch or so. Impossible to maintain but does show that a slightly higher screen is worth the search.

I have been very happy with my Ergo screen. I would never go back to a standard screen.

I have a 1200 Gs 08 with low seat.(I'm 5ft 8 ish)
I bought an ergo from NN and found that except at lowest setting at lowest
I was looking through it. I took it off and am now thinking of a GSA screen
with winglets. I would sell the Ergo cheap as it's better than storing it in the garage!
It kills me to spend big money on a BMW screen but what can I do.?
I am really enjoying the bike and want to get the most out of it.
After 4 RTs the only thing I miss is the shelter. Sorry for hijacking!

The GSA screen and fittings are around £300 in total, which is a lot of dosh by anyone's reckoning

I got a nearly new tinted one on here for £220 posted... which softened the blow a bit....

They do come up on here ... but to take advantage you'd need to stump up and become a Subscriber

It'll pay for itself pretty soon

A lot of money?

£300 does sound expensive BUT your GSA screen will go from bike to bike (with luck) when you sell this one for a new one and £300 is only about 3% of the cost of your bike and it will make a major difference; Also the extra support provides an excellent place to clamp on your GPS. The screen is designed for this bike and it looks right.

Givi Aeroflow There's a thread on here with mostly positive reviews and it's less than half the price of fitting a GSA screen - I'm very happy with mine

I bought my 07 1200GS with the Wunderlich Ergo screen already fitted. I did try putting the standard screen on to see if I could eliminate buffeting but the full face wind blast was terrible so only did about 20 miles before swapping back to the Ergo.
I normally ride with my visor up unless it is raining or until I get to 80mph+ at which point the visor partially shuts itself as the wind just clips the top of my helmet. There is still a bit of buffeting but not too bad and there is no wind roar (don't wear ear plugs) or wind blast on your shoulders/upper body.
6ft and standard GS seat. HTH.

Screen problems

I normally ride with my visor up Then your problems may be simply with the helmet; riding with the visor up is bound to produce turbulence;

I've got the GSA screen with the winglets and its great. Can ride uyp to about 50 with my visor open and the only bit of me that gets wet is my feet. The extra bar is a great mounting point for my Zumo as it keeps it in eye line. Stuck some of Les's HIDs on it as well and it looks the part. BTW I am 5'7" so not tall enough to be buffeted anyway.

its good to see my thread is still creating lots of interest

stop mucking about and get a givi airflow - I wish I'd started to sell when i fitted mine last year

i ride with visor up in all weather at any speed with the airflow and have no problems

happy to answer any questions if i can just make sure they're polite!!!

Thanks for all the advice and quick responses. I have a feeling I'm going to get a lot of use from this website! I'm off now to subscribe to see if I can get my hands on an adventure screen for a good price. I hope its worth it!!

That is the right decision - I sold mine with my previous GS as it had a few cracks in it - it was not up to battling with the car park barrier in Lyon! Now I also am looking for another one - and will probably have to buy a new one .......unless there are any GSA riders who have decided to "stop mucking about and get a givi airflow - but most unlikely I fear!
