I have a 06 GS which I ride mainly two up with top box (Givi) and panniers (Vario). Got the sports bike for the short blast stuff. I have found that when riding the GS I get vibration/turbulance from the top of the screen. I have tried it fairly low and also at it highest setting. I am not tall - average height - but probably sit fairly upright due to riding two up.

Is this a common complaint and if so does that mean I need a taller screen. In which case what is the considered opinion on the best one to get?

Got the annual European tour at the end of the month and would like to get it sorted before that !

Thanks,

Taller, smoother screen and/or Tobinators (they lift the bottom of the screen thereby allowing airflow up the back and preventing the turbulence caused when the fast-moving air in front hits still air behind).

Secdem screen from Nippy Normans is dead on :thumb

Others will be along shortly to disagree :D

I bought the tobinators... got my OEM screen to be less turbulent, but not good enough..

Bought the screen from NN (not the tallest one) and along with the tobinators got better yet... (but I still found myself ducking behind it on the motorways... I even installed a little mirror so that I could watch my LH while ducked...)

3 weeks ago I rolled the bike... the NN screen is made from Acrylic, unlike the OEM which is polycarbonate (lexan)... the NN screen shattered when I rolled it.

I rode the rest of the week out with no screen, including a 1000 km autobaan leg on the last day... so much quieter without any screen generated turbulence...

I've since cut my OEM screen down so that it just protects my GPS above my instruments... (removed 8" or so) Less turbulence than all of the above, but still a tad more than without any screen... I'll leave it like this till winter, then perhaps order the tallest NN screen and cut it down so that I'm just looking over it...

Al...

I've fitted a MRA Vario touring screen. The lip at the top can be adjusted into 5 (or is it 6?) positions and turbulence is totally eliminated. It's aldo much thicker than the original screen and less likely to 'wobble' at tickover. I think the dark tint also looks better than clear and covers up the back of the instruments when viewed from the front.

Secdem :thumb

Smooth, taller and slightly wider and fits perfectly! ;)

Motorways are bliss.

Thanks for the advice. Seems a Secdem it is then. Checked the NN web site and it does not appear to mention which is the Secdem screen. Looking at the options the wide (and 15cm taller) screen appears better than the really tall one. Is this the one that that you are referring to? Are the Tobinators worth getting as well or will the taller screen largely deal with the issue? I am limited to how far I can lower the screen due to the position of my Garmin sat nav - mounted on the TT fitting bar !

The 15cm taller was the one I ordered and it has done the trick without Tobinators for me. Seems a lot larger the standard however the really tall screen he sells must be a monster!!! See attached.

I tried Tobinator but did'nt work for me, I used a CeeBailys +4" and I could ride without earplugs and no buffeting.
