Yes some absoulute SCUM BAG today whilst I was enjoying a nice cup of tea in a well knowen Mid Wales biker stop (West End Cafe Llandovery) stole my starter button from the on off switch of my 08 GSA. I can not believe someone would be so Twa.ish and do such a thing.
Before anyone asks their is no way on this earth that it fell off as I use the off switch to turn it off and it was defo their when I went in for my cuppa.
So I now have to start the bike with the smallest Torx allen key which is a right pain in the backside. But what makes me really miffed is unless it was some idiot intent on causing damage, which I doubt, it was another BM rider!!!!!
So does anyone know if you can buy just the grey cap that sits on the top of the on/off switch or is it a case of buying the whole unit. Which of course will cost me. Then again I presume I could buy one from the breakers and just salvage the button.
Any help would be great:(:(:(:(

They fall off

Happened to me one minute it was there when I went to the garage, then when I went to start it again gone:mad:

Stuck a self tapper in to keep me going need a full unit they don't supply the wee grey button

Fixed under warranty:thumb

So maybe I have jumped to the wrong conclusion and made myself believe it was their when I stopped the bike when it actually was'nt. Will talk to the dealer and see if a warrenty claim is in order

Was that you I saw fleeing up through north Wales today? :augie

prob fell off coz you use the emergency kill switch instead of the key!

Hmm How would this cause it to fall off? In the manual it is reffered to as a means to stop the bike. You don't have to allways use the key. It is after all the on/off switch:)

just a thought its just that you said you always used it. it is a lightly made switch only to be used in emergencies

re: Using emergency stop switch.

Why would one wish to use the emergency kill switch instead of the ignition key?
It's not logical. One still has to turn off the ignition switch to remove the key, unless one leaves the key in the ignition.

OK it is a matter of choice but sometimes it is safer and easyier IMHO to stop a bike by using the thumb operated OFF switch. For example your parking on an incline and if like me you allways turn the bike off whilst it is still in gear it seems simple to bring the bike to a stop dip the clutch and whilst still holding the bike with TWO hands and covering both brakes or just the front if you need to put both feet down for some reason you can then just thumb the stop button to off. Then the bike aint going any where as it is in gear so you can then relax the brakes, after releasing the clutch of course step off etc etc. All this of course and IMHO if you never use the stop button but allways use the key brill, fine that's not a problem its just the way you do things.

Any way spoke to the dealer about the start button and he did not seem to be shocked and said it proberbly did fall off whilst riding. I am now doubting myself if it was their or not when I stopped and should not have jumped to the conclusion it was stolen. So it is being replaced under warrenty which is a good thing for me:):)

re: missing button.

Just shows: Many of us do things differently. I have never used the kill switch - ever, others do so regularly.

kill switch shuts down the pump and the coils giving you power on to frig about with sat nav autocom or whatever without having the engine running and alarm doesnt arm because ignition is on , because its nice to know it is working if you do need it, and maybe other reasons unknown to anyone but the individual, ps went on a bmw offroad weekend and ripped the kill switch off a bike with 92 miles on it in a collision with the backmarker lol had to start it for the last day with a twig not good when you stall it on a downhill rock garden:toungincheek
