Yes some absoulute SCUM BAG today whilst I was enjoying a nice cup of tea in a well knowen Mid Wales biker stop (West End Cafe Llandovery) stole my starter button from the on off switch of my 08 GSA. I can not believe someone would be so Twa.ish and do such a thing.
Before anyone asks their is no way on this earth that it fell off as I use the off switch to turn it off and it was defo their when I went in for my cuppa.
So I now have to start the bike with the smallest Torx allen key which is a right pain in the backside. But what makes me really miffed is unless it was some idiot intent on causing damage, which I doubt, it was another BM rider!!!!!
So does anyone know if you can buy just the grey cap that sits on the top of the on/off switch or is it a case of buying the whole unit. Which of course will cost me. Then again I presume I could buy one from the breakers and just salvage the button.
Any help would be great:(:(:(:(

The really scary thing is if you look closely at most bikes there are loads of expensive components that can easily be half-inched.

Mine fell off as no-one was near the bike

Put a self tapper in to do me until it got replaced by the dealer:thumb2

Why worry about the bits?

Just steal the bike, it's easier.

Not to start an OT thing but why are you using the kill switch to turn it off?

Is that the 'secret' 30 second immobiliser to deter people from parking badly in supermarkets?!

Er, correct me if I'm wrong, but an 08 GSA should still be under warranty. Tell the dealer it must have fallen off or snapped off and get it repaired under warranty, or else pay the £150 approx for new handlebar switchgear (you can't buy the switch on its own). The dealer may even have a stock of spare buttons if it is a known defect.

If it genuinely was removed from your bike, it was probably vandalism by a jealous BM hater.

Sometimes it's just easier to tump the kill switch.

H.R.H Oonyak, apparently.

But as Wapping has noted it has vibrated off for some people. So maybe I have jumped to the wrong conclusion and made myself believe it was their when I stopped the bike when it actually was'nt. Will talk to the dealer and see if a warrenty claim is in order

Don't thank me, thank H.R.H Oonyak.

There again, he may just have been talking pish :nenau :D

Well H.R.N. OONYACK I will approach the dealer like you did and see what they say. I would like to think it vibrated itself off and that no one actually stole it. But other than yourself I have never heard this happen to anyone else:)

It happened to me. I nearly gave birth to 8 healthy kittens because I'd parked it somewhere a bit dodgy, and assumed i'd been saboutaged. When I'd calmed down i phoned bm and was told it would cost about £150.00 to replace. This cheered me no end, and when I'd calmed down again I posted on here for one. I got a second hand one off of a R1200. When I went to fit it, on close inspection of the area around where the button had been, I noticed there was no sign of scratches, force marks etc. It slowly dawned on me that the thing had vibrated off! On a 6 month old 1200! By chance I was in bm the nextday about another bike, and the main parts fellow, on hearing the tale, just ordered me a new r/h switchgear complete, under warranty.

SO, thats a long winded way of saying, " i know where you're coming from, try your dealer, (if you,re still under warranty) and all should be well!

Yes indeed I like you got caught up in the moment and I think jumped to the wrong conclusion. As when I approached the dealer he just stated calmly that it proberbly fell off whilst riding and has ordered a new one under warranty. So it appears they do vibrate off and I made the mistake of jumping to the wrong conclusion. We all I suppose are guilty of this but one to learn from. :beerjug: :beerjug:

The same thing happened to the bike i bought. The lads i bought it off had to replace the whole unit. Not sure of the price. He said that he couldnt buy the grey button on its own.
