So I'm trying to upload photies from my Panasonic TZ5. Done it before without injury :D I'm using a card adapter thingy cos my home PC doesn't recognise SDHC cards. When I introduce the card and adapter to PC or laptop, it says I need to format the disk first. Never told me that before. I'm fairly sure that formatting it will wipe it clean so don't want to do that. There are about 240 piccies on there.

Tried the SD card with the adapter in 2 laptops and 2 PCs now and same warning each time. Aslo tried the SD card without adapter in one laptop which has a card reader built in - same warning.

Any ideas, techy guru types?

Connect your camera straight to your computer
Have you an adapter, (usually an USB cable that comes with the camera), that will copy the images straight from your camera on your computer.

You can then sort out the SD card once you have transferred the images

Ronnie - just another point - I always reformat, in camera, any media card, (SD, CF etc., etc.) after EVERY transfer of images to my commuter

Can you not back up the SD card and them format it?

Not so far - none of the machines would let me do anything with the SD card or its contents.

Ta - I lost that lead a long while since. I did wonder if that might work. Ordered a new lead at the weekend so hopefully that will do the trick.

I have the same trouble with SDHD cards but as above connect straight to laptop with USB lead.

SD cards that aren't SDHC seem to be hard to come by these days. Mine and thine must have been part of the batch that had built in card readers but which didn't read SDHC cards :(

Good tip for the top - think I'll start doing that when I've accessed the piccies on this card.

Assuming it works with the new USB lead from the camera, I'm intrigued about why the same card won't work via the adapter gizmo :nenau However, I won't care as long as it works :D

Thanks for all the replies :thumb2
