Seat and tank

Just took delivery of my (2nd hand) 1200gs today. Delighted so far other than I'm sitting in the office and it's sitting outside!!

Have a quick question I wondered if anyone could help with. I adjusted the seat to high for my lanky legs but notice that there is a reasonably large gap between the seat and the tank now. Is this normal or have I screwed up the installation? The reason I ask is that the tank is marked where the seat has previously rubbed it. Just a little worried as to where all the rain will end up!

Mine has a bit of a gap - I'd say 1/4" max. If it's more than that, you might not have it on properly. There is a bit of a knack...

I'm also concerned (when I can be bothered) at rain running down on to the battery, but it doesn't seem to have affected my bike yet. When I wash it, I do whip the seat off and mop up the splashes.

it could be that you have the front of the seat on the high setting but the rear on low.From memory I think that this configuration leaves a large gap at the tank

Cheers folks. I'll have a play around with it tonight. I'm assuming that water ingress wont be a problem!!

I found that I was slipping forward in the seat so lifted it to the higher setting at the front only, which then gave me this ½” plus gap at the front of the seat and the tank which I did not like so I bought a high riders seat part No 52 53 7 681 139 adjustable from 880-900mm which when fitted at the lower setting fits right up to the tank.
I found that this seat just a tad to high so I have just had my standard seat modified i.e. the edges have been removed a gel pad fitted and extra foam fitted around the leading edge of the seat which closes the gap to nil. Will sell this high seat for £100 plus postage its only about 8 weeks old and cost me £159. First to contact me gets it.

Start with your bike on its centre stand and both seat elements off . Take hold of the rear end of the front seat and stand behind the bike . Introduce the seat to the position you reckon it should be then , still behind the bike , lower your head so you can see under the seat . You will be able to see the clamps that the seat crossbar fits into and can line it up perfectly . Should lose most of the gap .
