Seat lock body twisted in mounting…..

Guys, how do I get out of this predicament?
Used the bike for a trip out and wanted to hang/clip my helmet under the seat. I found I couldn’t release the seat. In trying to release it the lock shifted around in its mounting point, so that it neither opened the seat, front or rear seat, and wouldn't permit the key out either.
Long story short I got the key out (phew) and could ride home.
How the hell do I sort this I wonder?
Any ideas?
