Seat lock jammed

so I put the front part of the seat back onto my 08 Adventure. Today I wanted to get at the toolkit to change the tyres ad it is totally stuck in place. I have heard this happens. Anyone have advice on how to get the bloody thing off without breaking the key in the process?

Try putting weight or thumping the seat as you turn the key, thats how the guy at BMW got mine free. I had an intercom cable fouling one of the hooks that prevented mine opening properly.

Yep

A dam good thump on the rear of the seat while the key is turned did it for me. I then lubricated the roller that it turned by the cable from the key. This runs on a guide plate which was binding.

New bike so not sure of the trick myself but I got it off OK and its a breeze now.

Had similar probs - found pressing on the back of the seat with varying pressure (more then less) with an elbow while coaxing the key seemed to work.
I have also discovered that the operation of seat removal is a cinch (as it should be) with tool tray and tool roll removed- when I've finished plumbing in my Autocom sysytem I will have a close look at the fit.

I have the seat set on the lowest position (on a GSA) - it would be interesting to see if it happens with the seat in the higher position???

Yeah I had a similar problem when the bars under the seat became displaced after the little rubber grommets snapped. There are two ways to fix it in my experience

1) have someone sit on the seat and their weight will push down the bar and allow the lock hooks move more freely when you turn the key; or

2) you have to take off the rear seat, top-box rack, and the plastic assembly. Once that's done you and use a big flat screw driver to force back the locking hooks when you're turning the key.

Just my to cents.

yep, take of rear rack, screwdriver etc. It happened to me several times.

Push down with your hand, heavily, onto the seat above the mechanism (middle back) whilst gently turning key anti clockwise - you should feel the key turn as you press on the seat.
If the key doesn't turn, don't force the key - press harder on the seat -
When the key turns, hold it anticlockwise against its stop - and lift the seat-- if you release the key first the latch can re-engage

it worked with a bit of ecky thump.
I just printed out the tip on the wire remote control, I'll sort that out later this week.
