Seat Recovering

Would anybody happen to have had experience of any seat recoverers in the UK. I've got a R100GS seat that I want recovered and ideally sorted out in the comfort stakes as well while I'm at it.
After trawling tinterweb it seems that America has various people who put a lot of effort into the comfort side of things ie. Bill Mayers, Sergeant, Corbin etc. But the companys here barely mention the subject, although they'll do you a lovely flame job stitched into the seat should you require it! (I don't).
I would send my seat to America but once you add postage and import duty to the equation the price goes from expensive to "bloody ell!".
Also gel inserts, any good or just a bit of a gimmick? I notice the top yankee places don't seem to use them.
Any help/advice most gratefully received (by my arse mostly!!)

Halfwit.....I posted a thread in the innovators section last week about this...although I actually aimed it at 1150gsa owners 'cos that's what I'm having done.

I took mine into a local old-style upholsterer's......they measured it up and showed me books of marine vinyl that's waterproof/fadeproof etc- the guy is going to give me a call with a price ( i hope anyway- it's been a week now ) but they were confident they can do it.

nce I've got a price I'll post it up and I'll happily arrange for more to be done, or you can try any similar type place locally to you- they tend to be tucked around in little backstreets rather than high street shops but there are stilla fair few old type places around

I had my R1100R seat enlarged and recovered - cost around £80. Performed expertly by Surtrim in Haywards Heath. Gel inserts allegedly a waste of time.

P&P seating put a gel pad in and recovered my solo R80GS seat. Not cheap but combined with a sheep skin was good enough for RTW.

What about these inflatable (airhawk?) things?

I'm having mine done by SAXON SEATS at the moment.

Dual density foam with an additional layer of memory foam on top. Reshaped and sculpted to a similar style to a Sargent seat and upholstered in leather effect vinyl. £155.00 for the pair!

I believe others on this site have used them with good results.

I have had a couple of airhead seats recovered and overhauled. I buy original new covers from BMW and get a local guy to fit them - he does a great job. Original fitting uses rivets, not staples as often seen with modern seats. The local guy can make the seat as firm or soft as you like, and (within reason) at the height you like. OE seat covers aren't too dear either.

I think I'll give Motorcycleseatworks a call. Fanum, I don't really want to go to just an upholsterers, I'm really looking for someone who knows their way around a backside...erm, if you know what I mean! but thanks anyway. The standard R100GS is quite a comfortable bike seat but it is bright purple, hence the need for a recover. After owning a Sargeant seat on a 1200GS and being very impressed by it I thought I would like to try to get the R100 seat as good as that was. Heres hoping...wish me luck, I'm going in!

All kinds of upholstery work done....not out of the kitchen or the shed..
