Hi all,

I need to call on the collective wisdom again. I'm having a problem trying to remove my seat. The release mechanism appears to be jammed, however the height adjustment bar under the seat has moved out of place on one side. As a result I have a seat that keeps shifting as I ride but can't turn the key in the release to take it off and sort it out. Any ideas on how to get the seat off before completely loosing my rag and taking the angle grinder to it??

Cheers.

Yip...................gentle pressure on key...........slam the seat karate style.........thought everyone had to do that!:clap

I find I have to turn the key, catch the seat on the far side with my left hand and jiggle the seat to get it off. Have had to do this with my last 1200 too

Hi,

I had a similar problem with mine.

I found that by pressing down VERY hard on the seat directly above where the locking pin is sighted, whilst at the same time keeping pressure on the key worked. You may have to do it several times but it eventually released mine.

Whacking it hard didn't work for me (As it were  ) It was the continual pressure that did it.

Try getting someone to sit on the seat whilst turning the key, I never had to go that far but it might do it if pressing down fails.

must be from the donegal event when ye hammerd it down with yer arse after comin over that bridge :D

EVERYBODY, it seems has trouble getting this blessed seat on and off. I am astonished that my new 2008 model is little better than was my 2004 model. (And I don't have a spare key anymore if I twist it off in frustration!) Does ANYONE actually use the clever space for a U lock under the seat? If so perhaps they have loosened up the system!

Nah Flash it was the handlebars that collapsed after the jump :blast

I've managed to completely bollox it up. The right hand side of the seat it completely loose and the left hand side is locked solid! :thedummy

Once the seat is off, bend the metal actuator a bit so it retracts the two hooks more, presto no probs:rob

I was well disappointed to find the seat on my 08 model is as difficult as my 05 model.:tears However, relieved to find out it's just not me.

I took all of the panels off near the front of the seat which allowed the seat to ride forward a bit more and that seemed to work.

But I've only had it a few weeks so there must be a better way.

That happened after I tried to stash the manual in the cubby box. Won't be trying that again!

I couldn't get my seat off once because something had moved under the seat and stopped the key from moving the mechanisim enough to release the bar.

What is needed is a C spanner or similar. If you get down below the seat level on the right hand side of the bike and look up underneath the plastic shrouding just behind the seat, there is a bar attached to the release mechanisim. If you get your C spanner in there, you should be able to push the bar down there by releasing the seat.

It is a bit of a fiddle but it is possible. If you can, have a look under the seat of another GS, you should see the bar I am talking about and how it works the seat release mechanisim (turn the key and watch what moves).

Good luck.
