The metric system

Well, I thought it had happened in the UK but sometimes I wonder. In our small town in Suffolk they went metric long long ago! When I wanted to buy curtain fabric in yards they wouldn't do it - I had to specify metres. 'How wide is it ?' I asked - 48" was the reply !!!!
33" is 838.20mm so ' 33" and a bit' is exactly 840mm.
31" is 787.4 mm 31 and a bit = 788.
Easy enough to understand - oh, one of the "bits" is three times as big as the other but wht does it matter - you can wear that off your boots without noticing.
I hesitate to send this - but it is only intended as a bit of light relief!
Now being a little less frivolous, a friend of mine who had the old 100GS had the seat padding thinned down but even after this expensive alteration it was still too tall for him; he decided to sell it and before doing so tidied it up which including fitting a new shcok at the rear - and lo and behold, suddenly it was the right size for him ! He decided to keep it.

I've an all black "low" 1150 GSA seat, and a "normal" black and yellow. Both are one piece.

Hi John,

How much difference is there between the 1150 GSA low and normal seats ?
I am 6ft tall and don't have short legs and I am on tip-toe on my GSA, but wondered how much difference between the two seats.
Do you lose any comfort switching between the two ?

Cheers, Piggers

Piggers,

Here: http://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/bmw_r_1150_gs_adventure_2004.php it says 860 / 900 mm. Sounds about right. For me, I go with the high option as I can get enough down when stopping most of the time. The lower seat isn't as comfortable for me as the knee bend is more. I'm 6' 2" with a 31" inside leg according to the trousers I buy.

HTH John

first time on this forum and wow:D i've just bought a low seat from my local dealer. only thing is, on my new gsa the trim on seat is red but u can't have a trim on the low seat:confused: so i've found a car upholstering shop who say they can put a red piece into the seat cover:clap my iside leg is 31inch and at the mo i'm on tippy toe not to mention when i have a pillion im wondering when i am going to be picking my beautiful gsa up off the tarmac:nenau so thanx everyone u have set my mind at ease and a pleasure listening to u all:beerjug:

don't forget to post the before and after pic. Fitting the low seat from the 1200gs to the 1200gsa means, as far as i can see, a solid black rider seat and whatever two tone colour for the pillion seat. I suppose removing the pillion seat is an asthetic (or is it anesthetic?) solution to the seat colour issue.I have notice a few 1200gs low seat for sale on ebay recently.

I have a standard seat on the high setting on a GS and am looking to buy/swap it for the high seat.
I am only 5" 9 with and inside leg of 32".
I want the high view see.
I knew I was a bit different somehow.
