Hi

BMW have redesigned the seat pan,
I have always believed the seat pan was to flexible.
& let the vibrations from the bike to come through to the seat. :spitfire
As anybody tried the new & old seats back to back.

Done 17000 Km on the standard seat. Used to burn my arse like hell. Took me long enough to work out that in my case it was a circulation problem! Stopped wearing underpants (when riding), I believe the seam on the underrods to be the main culprit. It is worth a try before spending bucks not knowing for sure the problem will be solved. :thumb

big seat

i am looking for a new seat, has anybody fitted an 1200 adv to a normal 1200. i find the 1200 seat has a bar that runs along the back edge and digs into my bum, any 1200 adv owners found that trouble .

Found the OEM seat made me feel as though I was sliding forwards all the time. Replaced it with a Corbin which is a lot more comfortable but perhaps a bit wide if the feet are having to go down at all. Negative aspects are that it's ridiculously heavy and not that well made for the money- all the bracket bolts were crossthreaded, with some stripped threads, and although I complained to Corbin they didn't bother to reply. I bought a Sargent for a H***a sportbike (RC51) I also ride, and the seat beautifully made and very light, and as far as comfort goes I've not even thought about it, so it must be good.

I brought the Sargent seats, they are a bit better than BMW, Hand Brake (Wife) likes them better, look great, better fit than standard units, can travel further before getting a Monkey's Bum.

As much as I don't want to get into a conversation about whether or not to wear underkeks on the bike, Anikin is onto something as the ar$e to seat interface is important.

I've just swapped to my summer pants from wearing my Rev'It leather pants all winter (with Ron Hills underneath and waterproofs, if necessary, on top). Going from 3 layers of cow and a pair of Ron Hills between me and the seat and the thinish denim / cordura of the BMW 'City' pants has made a very comfy, stock, seat suddenly seem less comfy and a bit hard.

Seat comfort

I think that a seat, like a pair of shoes, will become more comfortable with use. I wonder how many people don't give the original seat a fair test before changing.

That thing looks like it should be on 'Pimp my ride' it's hideous.

Agree with the comment that most people don't give the any seat enough time - just like cycling. Having said that and FWIW I have just fitted the TT low comfort seat and find it great. Bit lower, bit firmer but mostly the non skid effect stops the constant sliding / re-positioning effort and gives the option to choose where on the seat you want to sit.
1200 miles in 3 days from new and no bum ache unlike my pal who's Ducati left him walking like the stunt arse off Brokeback mountain!
:beerjug:

I've recently added a sargent seat and much prefer it to the stock. It's not all-day comfortable but it extends the time before serious arse ache by a factor of two at least compared with stock. On a test vs another bike with the stock seat over a weekend tour of wales both riders much prefered the sargent and we've ordered a second one for the other bike.

CORBIN for me...

The Corbin seat makes a great bike almost flawless. std 05 BM seat is fabulous looking but is a pain in the arse. I dissagree with the above, the more you use it, the more you want to torch it!
Its not fair for me to dis the Sargeant or Wunderlich seats as I havent tried them. Did do 3.7k in 12 days last year tho and I'm a believer in Corbin. My other two mates on the trek hated me going on about it by the end of the trip.
Now planning this Septembers jaunt.
Bob happy buttocks! :D
