Why deny yourself something you would like? Money, it's just a tool, if you can afford something go and get it and enjoy it. It's what life should be about and nothing better for your mental health.
My ex wife's godfather, a lovely man, denied himself anything apart from the basic necessities. He constantly worried about money and would do almost anything to avoid dipping into his savings.
He worked in fairly low paid jobs for all of his life even working part time until shortly before his death. When he died in 1977 he had savings of £33,000 and another £12,000 in cash where found in various hiding places around the house.
Bearing in mind you could buy a decent house for £8,000 in 1977 this was a substantial amount of money.
He often talked about things he would like to do and places he would like to go. No one had any idea he had access to that type of money and after his death I really felt for him.
As I've said, I believe money is just a tool and there to be used. Yes, I understand that most folks need some savings for a rainy day, but I just don't see the point in amassing 100's of thousand of pounds unless you have a clear goal for it.
Spend your money folks, it's what it's for.
