second hand values on the lc

Just now is a bad time, middle of winter and a load of new bikes sold due to the 2.9% promotion recently. I can see bmw doing a low interest deal on used stock soon to get the 2nd hand stuff moving again.

What 2/3 year old bike has a decent cash buy value at a dealers in the Winter? Honda?, Triumph? Yamaha? Ducati? I don't know of one.

I traded in my GSA recently. No problem with the price. It depends on the dealer.
There are several issues:
1) lots of people bought them in 2013 and have traded up to a newer model/warranty is running out.
2) BMW made a lot of GS'es and the GSA was much more popular than previous editions (presumably hence the satnav and cheap finance on offer)
3) There's a dealer deposit and low finance deal on any approved used bike. The dealer has to suck up most of the contribution so may not be keen to take yet another GS in part ex.
4) depending on the dealer they may already have loads of used GS'es so won't want to take another one in, especially if they have to settle the finance.
5) December is a good time to buy a bike but not always a great time to sell one, obviously.

This is really simple, over 30 years I have swapped traded pcp'ed contract hired financed bought and sold at least 28 vehicles, both 2 and 4 wheeled, real world fact you don't make money on vehicles.! So why do we do it???

Coz we love to change and some times vary rarely we find the keeper, I thought that with the GS then they brought out the LC and I bough that and you know what in a couple of years there will be a newer better one and I will probably buy that.

Am I loaded, am I fuck , do I love my bikes, hell yes and whilst I have that feeling shove the logic and enjoy it (as long as you can pay for it), I know I have to work hard that ain't a choice, this is my pleasure this is my hobby, this is my sanity. Rationalising making money out of vehicles is a waste of time.

Go for what you want and what you can afford, and what puts a smile on your face fella.

So the OP has taken his Awesome Steed (©Wapping) to his BMW dealer the week before Christmas and presumably wishes to exchange it for pictures of Her Majesty so he can go and spend these around the corner with a competitor on a lighter bike!
We know nothing of mileage and condition of said steed, but it would appear that the OP is somewhat surprised that he hasn't been offered a top price presumably so he can take his business elsewhere!

Meanwhile Yorkshire's most famous tight wad tyre kicker has rocked up with glee to tell us that our WC steeds are worthless whilst his own "Awesomest Steed Ever Built" sits in he garage at home gathering dust (or is it in a plastic bubble?):D
Of course a comparison is made with a low, mint "Awesomest Steed Ever Built", which we are told is easily worth as much as the new fangled rubbish we have bought! Of course the sad thing is that Scrooge of the White Rose is referring to bikes which are 10-15 years old with around 15 -20 thousand miles on them! So presumably owners of said "Awesomest Steed Ever Built", which was designed to take them to faraway places have had their money tied up in a bike which has sat in the garage for most of it's life!

Meanwhile a gentleman of this Parrish has a 2013 LC which is due in for its 60,000 mile service this week and is probably worth about £5-6k on trade in. Is he bothered? Is he feck, he's too busy enjoying riding the thing and having fun :beerjug:

You are all forgetting the RT suspension issue.

At this point all the dealers replaced them all with GS.

Hence now the flooded market

Maybe Big George should learn how to lift the awesome steed up onto its centre stand... And save himself a bob or two.

Excellent, light-hearted and entirely accurate description of the irritating, grumpy old northerner who revels in his role as defender of the mint old ming and who takes every opportunity to pop into the WC section to trash and gloat. I'm surprised he bothers to darken a dealer's door (or that they let him in to kick a few WC tyres and suck through his teeth). I doubt if BMW have the skill to design the special tool they'd need to remove the wallet from his pocket. Can't beat a thread where he gets to run down newer offerings from Bavaria and PCP at the same time. Still, it's probably just his "online persona" - in real life he's probably the life and soul, never has a bad word to say about anything or anyone and always gets the first round in. :D

I resemble those remarks, made me chuckle and a very Merry Christmas to you both.................Bah Humbug (said through gritted teeth:D)

A decent mint 1150 GSA is now worth the same as the OP's 2014 12GS WC......................Happy Days:cool

No it's not, that's what someone is advertising one for. What that 1150 will actually sell for is another story.;)

Ah, but our old bikes are on the way up and yours are on the way down, at some point they will crossover...............it's an appreciation/depreciation thing

Still the WC is a lovely bike to ride - pity about the electronic glitches that have incapacitated a few of them, causing their owners some grief

Still BMW step up to the plate and sort them out, to the owner's satisfaction every time

Merru Christmas JB :beerjug:

I shall look forward to hopefully being part of both a WC and Lanncastrian Invasion of Dent next year, asssuming my worthless only slightly awesome steed hasn't broken down by then :D

I was chatting to a sales rep at Vines, they are having bumper new bike sales. Very unusual for this time of year but could be the weather. They took my GS in PX for the GSA, they gave me a fair price but it was still 4 - 5 grand less than i paid for it 8 months previously.......ouch!

He hasn't got the hang of this computer malarkey yet, has he?

Meanwhile he's out on his awesome WC steed, no doubt

Now pay attention - I won't be repeating this. Wouldn't touch a WC with a bargepole - have you read what some people have said about them? :D

I do love some of the new stuff though - had a K1600 for a loaner while my bike was being serviced, now that is tempting.

Merry Christmas JB :beerjug:
