Today was mostly spent running up some new software we are releasing later this week that will give combined AV, Firewall and Parental/Workplace control. A bunch of people are visiting Wednesday to see the rather grand sounding 'Security community technical preview' so I was curious to see how the near final cut would fare.
AV - Good as expected and it promptly caught my obscure test set of Malware.
Firewall - Good again as expected, rule sets were easy to configure and prompts were user friendly, and it 'stealthed' ports (Curse http://www.grc.com)
Parental/Workplace Control - Always fun, so a quick Google for 'Asian Babes' revealed erm Asian Babes, bugger I was in the Adult profile, so set it to teenager as default and AB's were blocked, as were as many other rude words as I could think of.
My job done I trundled home and recounted the days events to my wife who without a pause said Yes - but what about child porn....
I had to admit I flatly refused to even look for it, I have no idea of key words and do not want to know them either, so at this point please do not look on this as a prompt, however it made me think, how big an issue is this? Is it on the increase or is just that more people are being caught, and is this yet another thing we need to protect our children from (Y default) as well as employees, legal and workplace issues aside?
Maybe just another indication of the sad world we live in...
