Hi Guys,

I'm selling my Zumo 660 to a mate, what do I need to do to transfer the lifetime updates to his name?

Thanks and regards

Jorge

Simply de-register the device with Garmin. This will remove you from any association with the device thereafter and leave the new owner free to register it for his own use, if he chooses to.

The rights to any lifetime maps and future updates will transfer to the new owner on re-registration.

I thought the lifetime maps subscription voided if you de-register the device and is not transferable to a new account has this now changed?

"subscription may not be transferred to another Garmin product." The update stops with the device not another product

Lifetime map subscription may not be transferred to another person or another Garmin product

This is what I was concerned about when I sold my 660 so changed the details on the account to keep the account the same maybe an over kill but best been safe than sorry :nenau

If you're not closing your Garmin account or buying another Garmin device, why does n't you mate login as you & leave the device as is ?

Thats more or less what I did but changed the email on the account so the new owner could reset the password and change the contact detail maybe I just played it safe it worked find and the maps carried on updating fine.

Wrapping has confirmed un-registering re-registering works the same so either way will be fine :D

There are few, if indeed any, reports on this site of bods buying the many secondhand units coming up for sale and then ranting that they have been ripped-off by the seller or Garmin or both, as they can not update their Maps for Life maps. Given the number of complaints on other topics, to have none on this most delicate subject is perhaps extraordinary.

I have bought two secondhand (previously registered) Nav V's on UKGSer, which are both now registered to me. I update their maps quite regularly, without a problem.

So, that reconfirms again that the rights to Lifetime Maps * - and their future updates - ARE transferred with the device and on to the new owner. That clears that one up, once and for all.

The only problem that I can see with the seller NOT deregistering the device is that it will, inevitably, stay registered to him. If for whatever reason the new owner or (if sold on again) some unknown future owner(s) goes to register it they might have a problem, I don't know. Whether or not that bothers the seller - or indeed the future owner(s) - is another matter entirely.

* But NOT supplemental maps (which are something entirely different) nor any traffic warning stuff, nor traffic whatsit.

Thanks Guys,

So in a nutshell... either delete that unit from my account and the new owner will re-register it to his new account or I can change the email on my account to his email, change the password and my details from the account to put his details, right?

That's right.

Though the first option requires you doing only one very simple thing, de-registering the device. The second option second requires more activity on your part and would, I assume, allow more opportunity for a mistake to occur.

Your choice.
