I have just ordered one of these, does anyone on here have any experiences of these ?

Was recommended to me by my friendly motorrad base.

Are they fiddly to fit ?

Going to make a change to listen to a Sat Nav for the first time ever !

I have just ordered one on Friday after a recommendation. Could not find much about it on the forum.

I have the SMH10R for me and my pillion (wife). Very simple to fit to the helmet. And easy to set up. I was expecting the worse (thanks to my Garmin experiences) was was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was.

That said, I have not set up/adjusted the VOX sensitivity properly yet, so I use it on manual.

Yes, the unit is a lot smaller than the SMH10, but that was why I bought it, as I did not want a carbunkle sat on the side of my helmet. But, with a bit of use, you soon get used to knowing where to find the relevant buttons on the unit stuck on the side of the helmet. Just persevere. Certainly my wife, who will let me know if such things are a pain, has said she is really pleased with it and has no complaints.

I was impressed with the quality of the in-helmet speakers as well, although I bought the adaptor for myself, as I prefer to use in-ear monitors.

I do not really want to make or even take calls on the move, but when I have, the caller did not realise I was riding a m'bike at the time.

Finally, I was not overly keen on having the battery stuck on the back of the helmet (that is one of the ways they make the main unit so small!) but, in practice, teh battery sits there and is no worse than having a sticker stuck on the back of the helmet.

I thoroughly recommend the SMH10R

Thanks for the replies. Having read these my only concern now with the battery pack on the back will the helmet still fit in my top box which was fairly snug to start with. I shall have to wait and see and hopefully by Wednesday will have the answer.

The battery is very slim line and, on my Shoei fullface helmet, certainly does not stick out beyond the furthest rearward extremity of the helmet.

I don't think that you will have a problem

Have used the SMH10 for quite a while now and found it to be an excellent bit of kit. Have a read of this. It looks more complicated than the original one.

That's an interesting review, cheers.

I'm going to be buying one shortly & thought I would go for the 10R. Having read that review I'm not sure sure now.

Mind, I'm waiting for the new one with FM Radio included so I guess that will limit my options.

Yes, the SMH10R is not quite as user friendly as the bog standard SMH10. But, from my experience, I can live with the "limitations" of the SMH10R.
I can only see it being an issue if you want to make and receive phone calls etc a lot from a moving bike. I don't, so it isn't an issue for me

I have a Schuberth C3 and the battery fits snuggly between the shell and the polystyrene liner at the rear of the helmet.

The 10r is far less cumbersome than the 10, the only disadvantage I can see is that when fitted it cannot be easily moved between helmets. having said that its a top piece of kit.

Fitted mine and all set up in about 2hrs after much swearing and fiddling with routing wires but all is good in the end. Fitted battery pack on the outside of the shell for now and all wires routed underneath the padding, quite tidy really.

yeah, Tosser-sized fingers are not helpful when doing the little fiddly bits of fitting/installing stuff neatly

I would add that I have contacted Sena Customer support a few times for some minor advice etc etc. They invariably reply by the end of the day they receive your email (as they are on the West Coast of the USA). Polite, efficient, helpful. Enough said.
