Guys, with a modicum of time on my hands (crutches `R` us) I`ve come up for a design for a headlight guard - I always try to use the best on the market as something to beat and IMHO TT take some beating however with their headlight guard I find the price far too much at £91 (dunno why - I can`t seem to figure it out and I don`t even mass produce my bike parts to find the economies of scale) and I also find their customer service sometimes a challenge - having been on a waiting list which ran into months I simply cannot figure it out when they use mass production - I do mass production (in my day job) and I am looking at days, not weeks or months for full vehicle floorpans.

I also think TT are missing a trick by sometimes considering themselves above reproach and not listening (they are a law unto themselves but their gear is brilliant IMHO - hubris maybe?) but I guess that's another thread...........

Anyhoooo I`ve tried to come up with something of comparable quality (if not better) for a much lower price and available within days and here it is - as usual valued input is always appreciated and always adopted where possible but here are the targets I`ve tried to hit:

1. Significantly cheaper - dunno price at this time but deffo cheaper.
2. Same if not better quality - all bracketry thick stainless steel and fastenings too.
3. Much more readily available.
4. Much more exclusive - (I only make one at a time or at most 2-3) - yet still available quicker.
5. A balance between protection and sparsity (sparsity - this could be a made up word but hopefully you will get what I mean :D).

I`ve designed it for the LED light but I have only got the standard halogen but it gives you an idea I am sure.

Made from 2mm thick stainless with powdercoat over the top - the supporting brackets will be the same but as I said this is just a prototype so I can listen to people cleverer than me :bow

mark i admire your drive to always want to make something, but that my friend i think is not good at all, only my opinion though.it really does look awful.

I think it looks good. It's different for sure to TT.

Funnily enough I was thinking same, and in my mind's eye, I was thinking that one that combined the aesthetic of a "metal frame" look with the practicality of a Perspex protective "sheet" would be good.... but to build challenging. The frame would somehow have to be set into the sheet, and of course the whole lot must be quickly removable to clean.

Of course, it'd be expensive.... and that's the rub.

Mark...that's a great start, and I think many will like the concentric circle look as opposed to the rectangular grid look. I'd extend the rh side down to cover the whole area.

Like it.

Think about the sort of sized stone that could flick up from the bike / car in front and damage a headlight. It ain't a half house brick :D Something the size of a marble at the most. Which I'm sorry to say would easily get through those gaps....

10 / 10 for enthusiasm though ... :thumb

You said it Mark, you have too much time on your hands!:P

If you want to develop something, why not make an alternative to the Touratech centre stand plate? I have one (before you get all stroppy:D), and it is COVERED in chips and scratches, so obviously does a good job of protecting the bike, so why not develop one of those?:rob:thumb

fair one pal - I really don`t know - I took my inspiration from the TT one of which I do hold in high regard. I didn`t want to directly copy the design so I modified it somewhat :blast

I will try to sort it out!

Thanks for your input :thumb

Thanks fella - the LED guard doesn`t extend down seemingly......

and yes some sort of plastic embossed guard could seem expensive........

Giles I could easily fill the gap better but then I would believe some other kindly folk might express a concern about blocking the light - I know what you mean - the damage does seem to come from smaller rather than larger items.

Nonetheless I will take your kind comments on board and see what I can do! :thumb

very nice

Very nice JB

Would anyone like one for the LC

anyway, I think one of the lads has already come up with a plain unframed piece of Perspex which, although it hasn`t been fantastically received by all, I think is absolutely brilliant.

Not sure if `framing` it would be necessary but as always I`m keen to listen to any good advice.

That's the idea, there, JB.

Looks like the one I fitted to my old GS1150 Adv before I sold it to Mike P's nephew in 2008 (nice lad, but my error of judgement in letting bike go!!).

Mark..... Nutty has a point.... there's a good market out there for a decent
"competitor-to-TT" centre stand guarding (but the TTech one is ugly... the Wunderlich one more aesthetic) and of course the ever popular headguard, especially one that works and doesn't let the heads still crunch down on the gravel !!

There are so many better (more aesthetic and more protective) designs available than offered by TT or W'Lich.... MachineArt slightly better....

well it looks like I know what my next design is then!:bounce1

stand bash plate

Guys, with a little time on my hands I`m gonna look at a stand bash plate - any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated because I really don`t have any idea and rely on `being pushed` in the right direction.
