hi ty, been following ur treads all good fun, some weird ones but hey ho! still not shure of my dates but if ur thinking of black forrest ,think about going free autos in france then lux then ger and down the rhine it saves on tolls for one and gets you down there fast,my only advise is think of two days down, three to sightsee and two back.good route if you like is down to lake constance, Lindau then thro to anderrmat, chamonix and back thro jura hills. be watching ur thread and let you kno how i go ...happy trails:rob

So before we go too far down the road of what sort of shaft we like to get our mitt's around, shall we get back to the matter in hand? :blast

Sorry - the trip!

What's the general consensus on meeting up before we go?

I'm happy to, or to meet at the port. I would like to get some tickets booked though.

We need to get ferriesw booked so that we are all on the same one.

My suggestion would be early Sat 5:00 - 6:00 that then gives us a good day for going south.
I know of good roads - must do the B500 - it is just so good to ride.

Strewth Karl! What do you do for a living - milkman?

I've had a quick look on google maps and Calais to Strasbourg is an estimated 5.5 hours via Riems & Metz - so say 6.5hrs with lunch & fuel stops (I'm not sure where the B500 is but Stras'g seems to be in the right direction for of the Black Forrest - for planing purposes).

If we were to go for an 8am (ish) ferry we should arrive Calias at 9am (10am French time). 6.5 hours belting acoss France on the autoroute 'should' get us around the Stras'g area by 4.30pm - plenty of time to find a campsite. Maybe with an hours contingency 5.30pm - still time to pitch up before dinner.

If concensus is we go earlier, I'll be there (throwing coffee down me like it's running out)! But IMO, a 3am get-up, 2 hour ride to Dover, followed by 6 hours on an autoroute, is risking someone nodding off.

What do you reccon?

I was thinking a night in Dover (travel Inn) but later is ok by me.

Be aware that Ferry is 1.5hrs from Dover so arrival will be 10:30 and by the time we get off probably it will be 11:00

Saturday morning 10:30 is good for me.

Where do you want to meet? McD's, KFC, the petrol station...

Will check out some ferry options and bring the info with me.

Hi Ian

I have a table of all the ferry crossing times/prices around 5am to 7am and approx arrival times (from each crossing) to Freudestadt - bottom of B500 - to take to the meet-up on Saturday. If you can't make it on Saturday, do you want me to email it to you? Can then let us know which route/time is your preffered one.

Send me your email address (by private message) if you want a copy.

Cheers

yep tomorrow 10:30

Am I correct in that this service area is common for both east and west and therefor only one 'communal' area at J2.
